High ass prices

Well, I found a new Record store and it's amazing.

They have the Galt soundtracks, Miles Davis and other crazy shit.
When I was in there I even found the sample to 'Fancy Clown' on the madvillain album.

But the prices are way higher then I usually go for.
Usually I but stuff for 2 bucks (around that).
These are like 10-25 bucks. Should I go for some records or just **** it?

yeah,welcome to a real spot. dont abandon your $2 spots but I dont mind going to a real store and dropping dough ($20-150 each) on some nice pieces. dude if you think $10-20 is expensive just think of all the 2 dollar turds you avoided (thankfully) for one nice piece. if a two dollar record blows then your stuck, if you dont like something priced at 20 chances are its desireable enough to resell. if its a local shop check a few of the more interesting things out on the net then go back. theres ALOT of vinyl reviews so you can know if dropping $70 on that sun-ra double lp is a good idea..
You dont mention how long you have been collecting but if you are down w/ reissues theres a whole world of things out there for cheapish. im not down so my collection suffers in size but i try to make up in quality.. im not trying to turn this into an og vs. reish debate im just mentioning the reish factor..

go to the store so that in the worst event you are helping a vinyl store maintain.

last bit of advice, go there, buy a few that look promising but are unfamilar to you to get an idea of quality vs price at this particular store. then you dont blow $400 on 10 records that arent worth it to you.

keep going through your dollar bins and leave the "expensive" wax to us..

i hear that. but its impossible to research everything so buy something a bit pricey w/ a recommendation from the owner perhaps and see if it holds up to the price tag..if so just trust the owner to shoot you straight, but BEWARE of 'the shady shop owner', they are out there and can get your dough. i have over paid on reocrds before when i was outta town and saw things i knew were desirable but couldnt check the net, so i gripped them and paid waayyy tooo much. it happens to everyone (whos trying to get real ish and not totally demolished dolar bins o' crap)but is getting less frequent in the interenet age where you can value reocords via the net on your iphone or someish..

go online and learn like 50 heavy pieces. in the process of learning those 50 titles value/covers/artist and all youll learn of others and start your mental cache of lp covers. then maybe when you see them you wont remember what exactly is on there but youll just know that you read some really positive reviews (or something) and youll need to grip. peep the ebay auctions w/ a search for 'funk lp' view your listings as highest price first. find something there that interests you and start on your way to learning.

one other thing i have to mention. a expensive record doesnt mean its a good record. think of honus wagner. who the fuc!< has heard of him as a baseball player? but if you got the card then you sir are paid.

(dont get hurt if you know who honus wagner is or isnt its just an example,albeit a simple and weak one)

If your going to be a fan of a certain style of music you have to learn to take the bad with the good. I am not meaning in buying the bad, I mean listening to the bad. When I go into a store I just got to a section of music and just start grabbing anything that looks even mildly interesting. LISTEN TO IT. If it is really bad then you won't like there stuff, if its okay then you can remember to look out for them in the future. I try not to research, I have stumbled onto all the really great tracks I LOVE and it has always been some weird picture or Band name that pulled me in. (You know what I am saying). The more you listen too the more of a catalog you carry in your head when you are looking for inspiration. Okay, I think I am rambling because I am thinking about "if I am rambling" so I am going to stop.

see if they have any lafayette afro band, you'll pay big for this way more then 20 IF YOUR LUCKY,
CHAKAKAS,HERBIE HANCOCK,S.O.U.L,ROY AYRES,R.A.M.P, ALL USED UP BUT GREAT MUSIC AND WELL WORTH THE PRICES to some extent,

when they run up in the 100 $ range it's crazy but sh!t i have paid 90+ for a 12 for one song, and that was on a good day,cause i have seen it go up to 200$ online.

learn who the good artist are, and see who they worked with ,

check for Iris Muhammad deffinetly will pay over 15$ for his music again if you find it in the $1 bin it wont be the same condition as one you will pay for 15

got to remeber the higher priced one's are in very EX cond. NO scratches,NO pop's,No greasy ass finger prints and torn covers.

DONT LET THE HIGH PRICES KEEP YOU FROM BUYING GREAT MUSIC,
CAUSE YOU WILL JUST KEEP SEARCHING AND NEVER FIND IT.

YOU CAN'T ALWAYS COMPARE A DOLLAR RECORD TO A 100 RECORD IT'S THOSE PRICES FOR A REASON!!!

yea I got a spot that ranges from as low as $3 to $100, based on condition and the record. but even there dollar crate has some gems here and there, they've got a portable in the back so i just grab a few and listen to see if I'd even use it, but good/clean records cost a little

yeah i feel you

thats why i said to some extent,

there's some music that is just hard to grasp...i collect some classic music from the 50's oldies but goodies you know the sh!t your mom's older sister use to listen too,doo wop stuff, now i grew up on that kind of music and to find stuff in it's original state is damn near impossible,so for stuff like that i would have to pay the price just to have a song i liked or heard that brings back memories of my childhood.thats all i'm really after ,are the memories that i get from these songs i digg for.i cant put a price tag on that,you cant never go back to that time and age of when we first heard that song .
but yes there's some good stuff you can pick up at the thrift store but then you have to deal with warps .. crackling...sleeve splits...scratches..finger prints from someone eating greazy ass chicken and touching there records. most record shop's weed those things out,but then you have to do your part of checking the record before you buy it...right? even from a store, if it's not sealed.
shoot.. give me a $1 bin and i'll be there in a sec,

MPC you have MALIK? if you do how much did you pay if you dont mind me asking. yeah i have seen that record go for some money,i bid 100 one time and my partner bid over 200-250 and he got out bid. yeah thats krazy to pay that much, but it's the internet that makes it easy to raise a price of a record from 10cents to 125-250k for a record.

i've been diggin and collecting for a long time and i remeber when 20 foran import was alot, sh!t now you can pay the prices i mentined for a domestic record which back in the days only use to cost at the most $11.99
and 7.99on sale at the warehouse or music factory,music land what ever stores where out then.

yeah man ,trying to replace records is damn near impossible.not enuff time to find what you had,i was talkin to this customer of mine the other day and my partner is doing his damnest to try to replace his collection cause he was in the hospital and someone broke into his house and sold his collection,now i dont know how many record he had but ,man i heard of stealing a CD collecting tape collection having you rIPOD ripped off, but stealing a man's vinyl collection DAMMMMN WHY would some one do that, it had to be someone he knew IMHO. you can steal my equipmnet you can take me money ,but dont FUC WITH MY RECORDS. ask my family they'll tell you. i dont even go on vacation.

why would some steal a record collection it's not like they can sell them or even listen to them if they dont have a turntable. you know?
