I may be wrong but I thought the 500 pads were smaller than the 1000. Oh and trust me homie I'm not tryin to defend WAKAI...lol

nope. same size. the 500 used flat sensor technology from the get go.

the use of the flat-sensor technology in the 500 proves that akai does know that there is a problem with the old 1000 sensor technology and they chose not to use it again.

Couldn't you email akai and ask them if they still make mpc 1000's with the original 1000 pads. Tell them you appreciate their efforts with the upgrade, but you prefer the feel of the old 1000 pads to the upgraded ones and wish to purchase a new mpc1000 with the normal pads, but are having trouble finding one.

If they claim the old pads aren't available, then surely the upgrade is the de-facto pad and therefore not an upgrade?

If akai are reading, seriously chaps, come on - sort yourselves out, this looks sloppy - everyone makes mistakes, but it's how you deal with them that defines you.

think about this+ what is the most sold mpc unit today? mpc1000. now think about the new formula coke(like ten years ago), that stuff was hated on and lots of people said they would never drink coke again. what happened? coke"classic"(pads classic, anyone). anyway, coke dug a hole that took several years to climb outta. back to mpc1k; yeah akai is in the clear, there is no way they have to, or will replace our pads. however, they've dug a hole, but now they are trying to use us as the ladder. now why is this problem? future business! if the most sold unit is whack, then so will all the rest, that's the way i see it.
mine was bought new with less than perfect pads, that's weak. look at korg, man they sell replacement parts at what must be cost. now akai is tryin this bull
in closing mpc 1k my first and last akai product ever, roland anyone.

Buy your pads like I will. they are not going to recall $h!t. I'll buy them just to get my machine in working order because by the time we all finish complaining every single pad on our machines will be $h!t. So we got screwed and they got paid. With that siad. I love my MV8800 nothing is touching it.

WE gotta get a news station involved. Like when the public writes in about a story, get some investigatve reporting. That would be some funny ish to see on TV, see some reporters knockin on Akai headquarters.

Also theres gotta be a Beat making lawyer somewhere who rocks a MPC and would make a case pro bono.

Yeah, we need Arnold Diaz who does the "Shame On You" segments on the news...

mpcs are coooool. if they admitted it, and told me they **** up sayin they had a faulty pad design and it'd cost them **** loads to replace them, (the good old fashion way) i wouldn't have minded paying $180....... not just for the pads but because for their honesty.

Im so uncertain what to do - I was going to buy an MPC1000 today but you've all put me off with this pad issue. (which is prob a good thing )Talking to a few shops none of them could confirm the year/date of manafacture of the units they have in stock so I wouldn't know if they have the new pads unless I buy unit, take it home an open it!?? I know alot of places are out of stock and are waiting for a big delivery from Numark next week - could this guarantee new build models???????

If this unit has been selling for 4 + years is it such a huge problem? Or like the xbox 360 is it just a few 100 units failing and the other thousands are ok? I understand the black unit is newer than the blue - but there doesnt seem to be a answer if this guarantees the new pads. Most likely not.

Mmmmm maybe I should get a Roland MC-808.....

it is a problem indeed, and I am really pissed off since it seems impossible to get the pad upgrade kit. I've been calling everywhere in Paris and emailing shops in the USA, and nobody can guarantee that the pad upgrade kit is coming anytime soon. So what? The mpc pads are dying one after the other. On my blue MPC the pads 1 and 3 are dead, you can feel the carbon layer in it that has turned to crumbles, on my black MPC the pads 1, 3 and 4 are dead, same problem. What the hell. I am ready to buy the upgrade, showing how stupid I am (or how much I love my MPC1ks), but I doubt I will succeed soon. I've even received a stupid email from akai USA telling me to be patient!!!!!
