Do you think this will work

Im buying a new 9.2g internal hard drive for my xl. I want to fill it up quickly with samples on my laptop. Right now my mpc has a floppy drive so this would take forever to the transfer the files. I know everyone is gonna tell me to get a multicard (which i will). The question is do ye think this USB to Scsi lead will do the trick???

I saw these Iomega converters on eBay the other day and have been wondering about them myself.

You supposedly plug an external SCSI device into the cable and then plug the USB plug into your PC and it should recognise it. It -should- be fine but I not certain.

Actually having looked at both the items again:

I can't see why the cable wouldn't work.

The HD you posted is internal, so won't work with the cable. You need an external drive - I saw this one earlier which is cheaper and in the UK:

Thanks for the advice Bro. Only problem is, the Hard drive arrived today so there's no turning back now. I know that its an internal drive i bought which i thought would suit me better, saving space etc. Im gonna have to come up with some other way of filling it up. Im thinking about just putting this new hard drive into my home cpu or something like that. I allready have 2 hard drives on my computer, i could swap them over and hope i dont upset anything.
This seagate hard drive looks like it fits in where my floppy drive is currently in my mpc2000xl currently. Does anyone have any experience with this 9.2 internal hard drive?? How do ye role, next on my list is memory card readers. If this drive fits in where my floppy drive fits then i cant get an internal memory card reader.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think you can replace the floppy drive with a SCSI drive or add it internally at all.

What I would do is just look for a SCSI enclosure or caddy on ebay and put the drive in it. Sorted!

Or. buy that drive I linked to and eBay the drive you bought?

I think the drives in your home computer will be IDE (different connection, like the difference between USB and Firewire) so you'd need to get a SCSI PCI card to plug the drive into. It's a very small drive to use with your home computer though and it's not going to be that convenient to use it with the pc and the mpc...

You can if it's an xl model.To my knowledge it has an internal scsi hookup and internal ide/atapi hookup inside the xl.

I have found the internal scsi port. The problem is the 2000xl mother board seems to have only 1 power source (square 4 pin white block)which is allready in use going to the pc power supply board. If i plug that out and plug in the hard drive instead it looks like the mother board will have no power. The lead they gave me with the installation kit has 1(square 4 pin block) on one side with the female end on the other side split with an extra lead attached which looks like it should slot in where my floppy drive is connected to the mother board. It doesnt fit though, its designed to fit into another style block on the mother board. This might sound very complictaed, but if you look at this pic of the installation kit you can see how the lead looks split..Again all this could be a waste of time if i cant use an internal floppy and internal hard disk at the same time..... I guess thats what the question should be.. Can you have an internal hard disk and an internal floppy or memory card reader working at the same time????? again both internal on the 2000xl. Cheers

u can have an internal hard disk, its just going o have alot of partitions if its 9gb. bu youll have no portability, you'd also need an external disk drive if needed to get your projects/samples out of the machine and onto a disk.

So basicly i cant use my floppy disk drive anymore if i install this internal 9.2g hard drive. I know i will need to use a floppy of some sort of media device to transfer files back and fort. Im gonna try and send the thing back and just get a memory card reader instead.
It would be great if at least one user who has an internal hard drive could get back to me before i post it off. Surely someone does!!

Send the HD drive back and get a card reader.
I got a HD in my XL. It's handy but not really worth the effort of putting one in. Especially if you aren't good tinkering with electronics.

Thanks a million for the advice. What a great waste of time this has become. The company i bought it from on ebay has agreed to take back this internal hard drive if i buy or exchange it for somthing else. They have a number of other options. Im thinking about an external hard drive/cd rom combo. I would buy a memory card reader but they dont seem to sell them. Can anyone confirm that this will work. Ebay item 180146160413 Cheers

1-would it be possible to "mcguyver" my mpc 2000 to have a usb output attatched instead of scsi so that i can back up files on a modern portable or external usb storage device???

2-Big up the dood that installed the laptop internal harddrive into the 2000xl
now can this same thing be done to a 2000(ORIGINAL) cuz if it is...Im gonna b rich!!!

Not just me but sooooo many mpc head that are faithfull to the 2000/xl would love to pay top dollar to have this done.
