would you recomend an akai S950 or an asr-10

ya.. i just copped an asr not too long ago also... i dont really have any tips or suggestions for you right now as i have only been using it to trigger my S950 so far... im still learning my 950 and my mpc60 and i dont want to overwhelm myself with learning 3 machines at once! the 950 seems simple enough, so once i get a little better at sequencing on the 60 ill start learning/reading the asr manual... the asr manual is 390 pages plus 150 something pages for the OS 3.53 update!!! it took me a few days just to get my cheap ass printer to print all that ish correctly!!! im stoked now though, all my manuals are printed and binded and now i can start f'in with it when im ready to.... do you have all of your manuals? if not hit me up and i can shoot you a link or 2....

in my rookie ass opinion the ASR is one of THE ILLEST samplers with the most quality functions in one piece of gear, of course it has nothing on the mpc60 sequencing functions... just skimming through the manual so far ive seen endless possibilities... you just really have to know your stuff to fully utilize the numerous sampling, editing, and effects functions it has!!!

im not there yet, but im definitely learning....

PEACE and GOOD LUCK!!!

ASR 10, hands down.

By fobedafied Wed May 05, 2004 5:01 am
yea... ASR10... but the 950 is dope for the price(and the learning curve)... an ASR will cost you 2 to 3 times what an S950 would! only with the S950 you will need a controller to trigger it, it has no pads or keys of its own....

even an ASR 10 rack I'd take over the 950. The 950's dope, but the ASR kills it.

ya for sure man... i wasnt even thinking of the rack ASR...
hehe, when i think ASR i always think keys...

Good buy DJames, it's an oldie but goldie (I still use mine to death even after all these years - since 94). 2kxl and ASR10 together is a good combo or even stand alone it can do DAMAGE.

Does any one feel like advising me cuz I bought 1 for $550 andonly have a few more days to make sure it's working correctly or I can't return it if I discover something wrong after that... The first thing thta's obviously wrong with it is the LCD doesn't display the charachters fully until the thing has warmed up for almost an hour but after that it's straight... What are some other common problems I can check for since I don't really know the machine yet and I have a short time to decide...

He's got titties on the brain!!!

Dove, it must be because you got rid of the 60. It's messing with your head!! Get it back!! ;)

Akai S950 ---> ASR 10? That's really not a fair comparison. The ASR does way more than the S950. The only area that the S950 beats the ASR in is the price, but if you have to buy a controller for it then that's even no good! Butcher yeah I sold the MPC 60, kind of wish I still had it but it was'nt getting used enough. I felt like I was neglecting it, ya dig.

yea, i just heard that the sequencer was a little bit tighter on the 60 than the 2kxl. and since u have the asr10 im sure ur just using the mpc sequencer right??
