the JJ OS doesn't have direct record. it has audio tracks.

I know, I know but I feel that's just pedantic considering it's a replacement.

All being said and done, if I can punch-in record audio in time whilst a sequence is running, I'll be happy

on the AKAI OS you can. just start direct record, play your sequence and start recording, then when you're done recording, you don't have to assign the sample to a program or write it to the sequence.

Where does the wav file it creates end up? Does it assing it automaticly to a program and if so which one? The one selected on the track?

after you direct record, you can discard the sound or save it to memory. when saving to memory, you have the option of assigning the sound to a pad in the current program (the current program is the program assigned on the current track) just like if you were sampling a sound through record mode. if you opted to assign the sound to a pad, it gives you the option of writing a "note on" event to the current track which syncs the sample to your beat as you had recorded it.

search youtube for direct record and you'll see how it works.

If you have JJ os and a harddrive why could I record direct like say a vocal , or a bassline,...like a audio track and JJ makes it straight recordable to Hard Drive not memory would that be great?

You cannot sample using 'audio tracks' while playing a sequence in JJOS.
You CAN sample using 'direct record' while playing a sequence with the Akai OS.

That is the main reason I started this poll.
