yeah, here's what I do to record my shi+:
1) make a dope-ass beat
2) 1/4 stereo jack from headphone OUT on MPC to 1/8th converter
3) to mic IN on Compaq laptop
4) where Ableton Live sits listening patiently
Is my sound quality suffering because I'm not using the 1 2 3 4 stereo outs on the back of the MPC?
In a mostly-related subject, I discovered while searching this question that some people go from MPC to mixer to recording apparatus, apparently in order to mix or "tune" the beat into some semblance of sounding good. I don't have a mixer; I do, however, have a $100 gift certificate for the local music shoppe burning a hole in my pocket. Seems like a sort of entry-level mixer sits around $100 (I'm in Canada by the way). Am I right?
Your thoughts? thx
EDIT: by the way, it's a MPC1k, don't think I mentioned that, don't know if it matters
