is this normal?

Anything I sample into my 2000xl sounds dirty. If I sample something with a long trail off, its very noticeable when the sample ends, and if I start stacking sounds it just gets messier and the noise gets louder. It's not the source though, because if I go to sample on the XL without anything plugged into the ins and turn the volume all the way up theres a noticeable hum that isnt there on any other screen. A friend suggested that it was because I'm using a surge protector living in an apartment complex and that it's just electrical noise. I've searched for the last few days to see if anyone else has had the same problem but I can't find any information.

maybe you just got the record gain up too high. i used to have the same problem because i was using shit cables and had to have the rec gain all the way up just to barely hear the samples. but i got good cables now and usually have to keep the rec gain below half way. i dont know...

forgot to mention that the record gain is at its minimum and the hum is still noticeable.

Im not sure about this,but what I think and heard a few times allready

if theres anything like a fridge,electric heating, heavy electronics on the same circuit as your soundsystem you can have some noise, a hum whatever..
maybe this helps you out..

Open your mpc, remove the memory module and try again. If the problem is solved, refit the memory. If the problem is back, replace the memory module.

Change the plug position of your MPC. Try it also without a surge protector. If its not your power supply then it might be a corrupted RCA jack output/input. Ah! Also check everything with headphones. If its still there then something really wrong is going on.

1. do you hav a good tube pre amp....it makes worrlds of diffrence over just a dj mixer.

2. hum eliminator there like 30 bux or get a monster surge protector with "clean power" and make sure all your audio gear is in it or get multipul if you must. u dont want to be getting hiss on your speakers if its not really in the mix..

the feedback is appreciated. I thought it was because of the other electronics as 1352 said, is there a way to isolate the power from the wall? Sander, I hope your talking about the extra 16mb stick of ram, (I bought it used and the previous owner only installed one) because I'm about to take my precious apart to see if that's the cause. Also, I'm not running it through a mixer, I'm using headphones plugged directly into the MPC. This isn't a constant sound, it's only noticeable when in Sample mode, and when playing back sampled sounds of course, which is where the problem lies.
