Anyone use an internal hard drive in their XL

Please Check my other post, "Do you think this will work". First page. Im not getting much feedback!

There is no internal hard drive made for the xl. Its just a normal HD stripped down and mounted inside the mpc using some space left from the 8 outs I think. Not sure about the exact position.

if you want to do this i recomend a lap top hard drive. a scsi harddrive would be good and easy but you just cant get them small for their size.

zip disks are all good.

seems pointless to mount a HD. I'd suggest an external joint. And in this day and age you can have a pocket full of 4gb CF cards, if you really need access to that many sounds. HD just doesnt sound reliable if your taking your baby on the road or doing live gigs. Flash memory = no moving parts, less that can go wrong. Once the HD is mounted in the disk bay, your limited to using an external disk drive to interchange sounds between devices.

I got a 9Gb laptop harddrive in mine plus a SCSI PCD-47b card reader. It was a pain in the azz to get it to work with all the SCSI ID #'s, splicing wires and finding the parts to do it.
I just did it for the hell of it just to see if I could do it (http://www.mpc2000xl.com/Internalhd.htm) even though I got an external SCSI HD.
The only plus side of having one in the MPC is way faster loading & saving time even compared to the external SCSI HD and card reader. ANd you got 9Gb's of samples and your songs stored right on it.
The downside... You can't just save directly to the internal HD from the card reader/external SCSI device. You have to load the samples and then save to the internal HD.
Not really a big pain but a little time consuming.
I know people say the HD might die... it eventually will but I back up everything I do.
Stick with memory sticks and an external HD. You'll be good.

yea like juke. the only thing thats a pain is you have to load anything in to save it to the internal hdd.
mine was a piece of cake to install though. i made my own power cable and i fit a 1" high 3.5" drive in mine. and i have the 8 outs too. it barely fit. but it fit.

where did you fit it at? what about heat?

it sits right up against the front. same place as juke. the ram is in the way by an 1/8 inch. but it still fit. heat isnt a big problem. ill post some pics later with my hdd and $17 fc drive too. im on my psp right now.

Thanx L.B. I have a 3.5 but i found a 2.5 scsi on line. I ordered the same $17 CF, but was able to get a cf from a mcd at a local shop for cheap.I saw jukes but i didnt think mine would fit the same way.Ill just check your pic.
