Help Needed

I'm fairly new to digging and have just found out that the record store round the corner from my work is closing down. It's the only vinyl shop in Oxford and it will soon be gone .They've always been pretty expensive but everything is now 1/2 price .

So...I'm looking for some suggestions for classic funk, soul, jazz that I really shouldn't miss, both big names and some of the more obscure ****. As I say, I'm fairly new to digging and I just don't want to miss the opportunity to pick up some really decent vinyl for a reasonable price. Sure I've had some great finds in dollar bins and boot sales, but we're not talking dollar bins here and I don't want to waste money on some **** which could turn out to just suck. Also, they don't have a listening post and I don't have a portable turntable.

Any suggestions, both for listening pleasure and for sampling (breaks etc.),would be greatly appreciated.

Please don't bother posting if all you're gonna say is **** like... 'We can't tell you what you'll like','You need to find your own path...'etc. That's not helpful.

This place will be closed pretty soon so I need to make the most of the opportunity now, and don't have time to do the proper research.

Any help greatly appreciated.

start by lookin up some of the other threads theres a hole bunch of info on other records.

I mean are your just buying to buy it or buying it because you wanted/need it???

I think thats should be your biggest focus....

If your only intentions are stritcly sampling, go invest in a numark or vestax portable then atleast that way you can listen and not waste any loot on dead records....they are handy as hell and I tell every and any one they should have one any how....

I will give you a good tip though...

If they are going out of business all together just purchase stuff you cant live with out...the other stuff gamble and leave it there and give it some time....if its 50% off now in a few weeks you will see 75% off and few weeks after that you may even see a huge sign "Clearing out remaining inventory" Where you can get whats left for next to nothing....

Keep in mind thats only if they are going out of business all together, the owner may just be closing down the shop to sell on the internet etc. If that is the case then 50% off maybe the best you will see....

Play it by case, talk with the owner feel him out....

but regardless I still say get yourself a portable turntable will be the best 100 dollar investment you ever made....
