I have been using an ASR for years and I just copped an MPC.

I noticed that the sequences are set to record a certain amount of bars automatically unless you initialize to change it.

Is there a function where you can record the amount of bars you want without pre setting them? In other words, can I record events onto a sequence and lets say I want it to be five bars, can I just hit stop when I'm done or does the exact bar count have to be set up ahead of time.

What u can do is set the bars to 999 or whatever and then record your sequence. When you are done you delete the bars that you don't want. Eg from bar 7 (if you want a 6 bar loop) all the way to bar 999.

You don't even have to do that. In PLAY/RECORD window just turn LOOP: TO BAR 1 to LOOP: OFF. The sequencer will now add bars as long as you record in this mode. When you don't want more bars you can turn it back to LOOP: TO BAR 1

Cool, I'll give that a try too!

Set how many bars you want and go to Initialize Parameters that way when you turn the MPC on it will always be however many bars you have it set at and the BPM will be set too.
