sample bank

ok, this question may seem dumb, but I wanted to use the MPC as a simple loop sampler that I can load 4 - 16 beat loop on pads so that I can just trigger whatever sample break I want. is that possible for the MPC?

I know it is a bit overkill, but that would be cool to be able to just call up a break just by hitting a pad...

it's possible on an mpc, yeah... but if that's all you need a piece of equipment to do, you should just get an sp-404 and save yourself $800 in features you wont be needing. the sp has great effects too... like 26 of them or something. i think that's more what you're looking for. the sp-303 is similar & you can find one used for as little as $150-200. hope this helps.

you must be j/k. sounds like you want to assign samples to pads. not that difficult.

what section do I need to look at in the MPC1000 tutorial to make the MPC1000 like a DJ sampler. I can do the chopping and what not. Even scratching, but having the MPC just loop a single sample seamless is not working for me.

if you can do chopping, you can do looping.

i recommend reading the whole manual, front to back.

cmon guys, we all know that the 1000 is not a loop sampler, and reading the manual cover to cover will not help... there is no easy way to use it as a looper, unless you set up a small sequence to loop each single sample with the appropriate tempo etc.
mpc is not a loop sampler. full stop.
loop samplers I know of are:
zoom sampletracks,
akai s20 (highly recommended, comes very cheap)
akai headrush etc...

that's what I was thinking and since it is not, making flipped beats out of breaks that are sampled are the only way to make what I was asking work.

I saw at my local music shop a Roland SP-555. Would this be more of what I should look for, for loop sampling?

u should read the reviews on other forum boards(ahem, sp-forums) for that. i am actually curious what is good for grabbin 1/2/4 bar loops myself.

i'll tell you what's the best loop sampler out there today, and it doesn't come in a box.

well, it does, but a computer box.

reaper. just like most daw programs, you draw in the wav on its own track
draw in the next

and then hit ALT while clicking on any side to stretch the wav, ableton style.
you can split the wav and stretch individual parts
the fine control of start/endpoints + the wav stretching features make this waaaaaaay easier than it was even on the 404

but lots of people want to avoid pc programs

not sure how you came to this conclusion. esp the part where you say reading the manual won't help? according to the original post he wants to "load 4 - 16 beat loop on pads so that I can just trigger whatever sample break I want. is that possible for the MPC?" and like i said before the answer to that question is yes. for example, my mpc1000 is on right now and on pads 1, 2, 3, and 4 i have loaded four different 16bar breaks. and i can trigger "whatever sample break i want" whenever i want. not that difficult.

yes... but they won't loop, as the original request mentioned...
why insist? the 1k is not a looper, full stop. workarounds exist, and reading the manual is always a help, but will not trun the 1k into a looper sampler.
Why start an argument about this?

you know i want to like programs, but i always leave em alone after i get em. however, stretching parts does sound really interesting. by the way, you could also go another way and get that new pioneer mixer and load patterns from the mpc as u like(it's kind of a short loop though). or get a rc-2 for that matter.

i personally want a cdj800mkii (insert down with cds here), which is very nice to me. i love making loops on the fly with that. of course i can't afford one of my own. is 475 to much for a non mkii?
