yep... the 1000 is awesome, but for loop sampling, it would be better to go with the SP-555... or something else...

if you could track down and Akai S20 those can usually be found for under $100 on ebay. Simple and not a ton of features you wont need anyways.

why insist? the 1k is not a looper, full stop. workarounds exist, and reading the manual is always a help, but will not trun the 1k into a looper sampler.
Why start an argument about this?

because he didn't say anything about making them continuiosly loop. he said he wants to load loops and be able to trigger them whenever he wants. this can easily be done. not trying to argue, simply answering the question which was asked.

just for kicks pad-o, but would you call a loop something that doesn't loop?

nope, but i would call something that is capable of being looped a loop. and if i load 4 - 16 beat loops on 4 different pads "so that I can just trigger whatever sample break I want" i would be able to do so by manually triggering the loops.

but how do you lock the pad on?

you can't. there is no indefinite loop function. all looping is done from within the sequencer or by holding the pad down.

the sp202-404 do this, probably the others as well

you can have samples loop indefinitely by using the 'numeric button' trick in the JJ os.

1. load up your samples.

2. go into TRIM & turn LOOP ON for each sample.

3. go into PROGRAM & set play mode to NOTE ON.

4. if you only want to play one loop at a time, set PLAY mode to MONO. if you want to play a bunch of loops on top of each other, set PLAY mode to POLY.

5. go to any screen (such as MAIN) and put the cursor on any field where you can enter a numeric value (such as the TEMPO field).

6. press and hold the pad you want to loop.

7. while you are holding down the pad, press the NUMERIC button on the MPC.

8. let go of the pad & it will keep looping.

9. hit the NUMERIC button again to deactivate it (so you don't accidently enter numeric values by pressing other pads) .

the loop will keep playing until you hit that same pad again to turn it off. you can go to different screens & change values, etc. & the sample will keep playing. you can even have all 16 pads looping at the same time using this technique. just hit the pad again with the NUMERIC function off to stop the pad from looping.

2. sequence a chopped beat to play... Seems like a lot of work for 4-16 beat samples...

Is there a limitation on the length of sample per pad?

have you considered the NEXT SEQ mode?
In this screen you can start a sequence by touching a pad, of course you have to build your sequences to start with, but then you may be set with what you want. However you can't layer the loops (sequences) with this.
