cdr drive

If you get the add-on cdr drive for the mpc 2500 can you put an audio cd in it and sample right from that. Thanks for the input.

So is that what most of my standard cds are? like if I wanted to put in Sam Cookes greatest hits could i sample from that?

Nope you need a program like Pro Tools or Cubase to convert the sample to 16 bit 44.1

but you can always just sample from an external cd player. right?

you CAN sample an audio cd by using the dvd-r drive, you don't need an external cd player. check page 58 of your manual.

can you do it on the 2000xl? I mean add the dvd-r and sample from it?

Your saying that you can put in a audio CD like a Jay-Z album and sample from it? I don't think so.

It will most definatley read CDs out of a disk drive attached scsi. I am not aware of any DVD-R that has a scsi interface, as far as external. If you tryna put an internal drive in, i dunno ask in the XL section. Easy to find a cheap CD reader with scsi tho. Spend as little time and effort on this as possible, it's barely worth it. At least with the older models, you have to load sounds up one. by. one. Like, you can't just import a bunch of samples from disk, you gotta preview and load each one separately.

Follow up for the actual mpc2500:
does it BURN actual audio cds as well as data? Meaning, a full stereo 2track mix instead of just file backup?

maybe we need a sticky for the abilities of the cdr?

as for now it can read commerical audio cds of any kind i threw at it.
it also can read cdr and dvdr with wave files on it.
it cannot read dvd movie as it is another format.

it can burn audio cd that can be put into any cd player.
you can wait to finalize the cd if you want to put more tracks on it.
you can only burn audio to cd not data. this means you can not burn seq, prg, mid,... only wave.
one thing i didn´t try yet is burning a mono sample.

maybe data backup will be added in a later os.
also i don´t know exactly if akai originally advertised data backup, or if only the distributors did on their websites.

if you don't think so, then you are wrong. it's right there on page 58 of your manual, in the "Recording a sample" section.
