What up all...

aspiring producer and all that... just looking for some insight and guideline's..

been doing this for a quick lil minute and still COMING wack wit this..

but for now i'm tryin to tackle the drums..

maybe my mistake was starting out h/w(mpc 1000) when s/w seems easier to pick up and grasp (displays where you jus click and unclick) ...so I'ma admit that. butI can't for the life of me lay down drums..I ain't a gangsta like that but i can't dance either.. so maybe i ain't have rythem...

but uh LONG story short.. all my tracks always have the same pattern

KICK, KICK, SNARE, KICK, SNARE and Hi Hats on the 1/8 timing...

and my TEMPO is always at 90BPM..

I have tried to imitate songs i love and they kick patterns and still i can't seem to "catch" it like that...

So i'm here for HELP, feedback, tips and pointers..

I kinda got it that at:

90 BPM a good pattern is my K,K, S, K, S, K,K, S, K...ect..ect..

but what about at other tempo's>

i.e.

76BPM
80BPM
110BPM

ect...ect...

anybody got any ideas or examples that would HELP me out?

I would really appreciate it and hope this helps all of us..

keep it guLLy

peace

Change your tempo's and make your kicks go with the sample or your chops. Your kicks need to go with your samples more or less. You need to think outside this box your in where everything is 90 bpm with k, s, k, k, s,.

i wouldn't worry about only being able to come up with kick snare kick snare
bidness - most all of hip hop has this kind of rhythm!

try to focus on matching your kicks with your bass - and remember the snare
doesn't always have to be on the backbeat, it can drop early, late or not at all...

it's a good idea to try and replicate tracks you like - this is a sweet way to learn
and practice... just try listening to some stuff that isn't 90bpm straight hip hop
and try to replicate the beats.

you could try forgetting the Time Correct function and just tapping out rhythms.

there's no quick way to learn any of this, especially if you're not musically
inclined (no offense meant there) when i first got my MP i spent months and
months just making boombap tracks... and loving it!

just keep at it basically - theres no quick way. :)

listen to other types of music. listen to the drummers. i get inspiration from listening to jazz, rock, metal, funk, electronica. if im creating hip hop, i dont listen to hip hop for awhile because my tracks will sound similar.

try to listen to system of a down, listen to the drums, find a little section and imagine how it would sound if it were slowed down to a nice groove instead of metal fast.

do the same with some jazz or rock.

its all about what you hear and imagine.

put your quantize on 1/16 right before 1.2.0 on your time get that snare and gone right before the second hit, hit the snare but yeah use your timing on 1/16
