I have never owned a 1000, but here is my advice.
Get an accurate (or close to) head count of all mpc-1000 owners on this forum. Also, if you know other friends or musicians who you them, get them to sign on. Get there proper contact information. This is very important as there is no point in having a list of people you can’t contact. Spread the word in other forums as well. This will need to be an organized effort, with someone in charge. This will keep everything controlled. This will also help with a class action lawsuit.
The goal would be to present a case with a high, documented head count. It’s harder when 5 groups go to 5 lawyers. It would be better for 1 group to go to 1 lawyer. This means less work for the lawyer to do, and a much stronger case.
Find out important numbers. How many mpc1000's were sold before the "pad fix"? What was the average length of trouble-free operation before the "faulty pad" issue presented itself? Average out of pocket cost to 1000 owners who tried to resolve this issue on their own? Phone calls? Emails? Returns? Repair cost? The list goes on. The point is, in a case like this, the most important thing would be numbers, as it would play a role in the final payout at the end.
The person in charge of this situation should create a questionnaire for all parties involved. All this information should be presented to your legal representation.
The person involved should be the spokesman for everyone involved. The liaison between the people (mpc-1000 owners) and the legal representation. There is no sense in having everyone speak at once, as this can ruin the case. Make sure everyone is on the same page when it comes to the desired end result. Do you want money? Do you want the pad fix for free? Both? You can’t get greedy. Understand that if it a cash reward, the remainder of the reward (after fees, or any other cost that come first are paid) will be divided by the amount of people involved in the lawsuit. I have seen someone receive a check for .37 at the end of the deal.
There are other topics to touch light on, but these are the ones that come to mind.
