does it mean you can seperate sounds in a sample?

no!!

a Multisample is when you can take on sound or many sounds and have them scaled from one end of the keyboard or mpc to the other with perfect pitch

so how is that different than the patch phrase you can do on a 2500 or the autochromatic feature on the 2000xl?

i guess what i'm getting at is what is the difference between the sampling you can do on the 4000 and the "phrase" sampling you can do on the other mpcs? Its my understanding that all other mpcs are just designed to sample drums.

I'll put it in a simple way for you:
If you had an 88-key controller the MPC2500 would take the same sample and play it from the 64 pads as they align to the keys.
Putting it in 16 levels would make it take the same sample and pitch it 15 times to try and represent 16 different pitches.
Pitching sample has limitations in it's ability to reproduce notes correctly.
If you had an 88-key controller the MPC4k would have 88 different samples with their setting.
You would then have correct pitch representation for each note on the keyboard.
You also get proper synthesis controls for the sample for sound creation and manipulation.
With the other MPC's you can work things around and in many cases get something useable or workable.
The 4k like keyboard and rack samplers are designed to do it and comes with the features and controls to make it happen and make good use of the features.

in either case you have to HAVE the multisamples to do it, can't just take 1 c note and throw it at the 4000 and claim multisample.

i drool at asdr control.

someday.

So describe to me what a multisample would look like. I'm still not getting it. If I sample a piece of music with say a guitar, bass and piano is that a multisample? I don't get it.

Tell me this what happens on the 4k when you use Keygroups?
Tell me what happens when you load a AKP from a library?
Tell me what happens when you load s-1000/3000 libraries?
You cannot do a mutlisample on the other MPC's you can associate samples so that you have your pitch on the pads or keys but that's not the same.
If they could actually do this then they could load S-1000/3000 libraries instead of just their samples.

Your confusion is coming from thinking of the MPC as a sampler.
If you had ever used a real sampler you would probably see the difference instantly.
This is the reason why people were so excited when the MPC's picked up features like filters, LFO's, looping etc since it allowed you to use it more like a normal sampler.
Unfortunately they never changed the sample structure except on the 4k.

...so... what is the difference between a multisample and a phrase sample?[/list]

what funny timing that was

http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/os2/

mid december for the mpc1000, probably around march for the 2500
multisampling instrument programs on 2 of the 3 newest mpcs
+ asdr
+ aftertouch

we won't be able to load akps or s-xxxx libraries due to the file formats, only 1000/2500/500 pgms, but that suits me fine cuz i don't have any of those libraries.

He should have worked it out so it could.
The advantage of AKP and S-1000/3000 is that they can be edited or created within certain highly functional computer progams.
With these it will be in the MPC only which may or may not be fun to do with that small display and interaction of the controls.
I guess we shall see.
Can't wait to see if anything in OS2 gives a negative hit to the CPU.

i find these things unpleasant enough to create/edit on reason's NNXT
i hate clicking tiny boxes with a mouse.
that's my only outside experience with them though. what programs are you talking about that edit s-1000/3000 libraries?

i bet that these programs/params will be able to be built and edited in GPE, which by use of the whole button speeds up the process dramatically. the adsr functions are probably all just gonna be extra columns/window options in GPE. that's fine by me. i'd rather work within GPE than in NNXT...

furthermore, since the actual architecture of programs appear to be changing, programs like bluebox will become even more outdated. when the OS is finally done (or at least the program file format is solidified) perhaps jj will upload the "makin's" of the file so that PC-MAC based editing software can be developed.

there's actually a LOT of potential i see for computer-based MPC file editing programs. i'd love an updated program builder that i could use to create multisampled patches from all the old hollowsun downloads i have stored on my computer back when they were free. and i'm far too lazy to do that in reason.

whati 'm about to say is all speculation, but i don't think it will. 1, it wouldn't be worth the sacrifice to screw with overloading the cpu just for additional functions. 2, i don't think jj would release it if it did. 3, i believe that different additions will do different things.

two examples: 1, an extra CPU heavy effect, like xtreme reverb or something silly. like other effects, this is applied in realtime.

2, an extra TRIM function, like bit convert, which is a 1 time "applied" effect, either destructively or as a new function.

item 1 could potentially hurt the cpu. item 2 would not.

i really hope piling on ADSR assignments will leave us free and clear to do whatever we want. i'm confident that it will, call it blind faith but even an atheist clings to that once and a while
