I am sure I am one of many who is loosing patience with Akai. My MPC has been defect free thus far and It has allowed me to write patterns far more effectively than Battery in Cubase. That said, just looking at it lately pisses me off. Akai's shoddy treatment of its customers sets a new low for the musical instrument industry. Releasing a 1k with the new pads without changing the price or the way it is represented is shameful. Charging existing customers almost $200 for what looks like $50 in minor parts is a load of bollock's. Knowing that I will want to upgrade the pads and that cash will be going back to the company that jacked me in the first place is more that I can tolerate. So my maxed 1k with hd and a pelican case will be off to the bay. It will probably be the only one that represents the truth in this product and I will eat a loss because of it. I cant do my brother or sister like I was done. Take care all, dont take any guff from these swine.

Ok? It's more than $50 of parts... If it's so damn easy to come up with new designs then go ahead. They thought they had something good and were obviously wrong. It happens. To replace every ones pads for free would cost them too much money and to sell it for more would be bad for business. Every one complained so they fixed the problem and started selling them brand new and now every one is mad. They did what you wanted right? But because you didn't get your way you are mad. Selling you mpc on ebay is going to do nothing. Good for you.

Why is it bull shit?

hey a.beats, i agree that for free wouldn't be possible; well unless the world goes flat...
but really it's not 200 worth of parts+labor+mail+research(and research is quite questionable in and of itself, as they used old tech to replace new !untested tech); maybe worth it but thats what akai is counting on.

to be honest the people who really got it up the... are the mpc1k bk owners with old pads! no hate to blue owners but akai literally charges more for the black ones. i can get a red one and order pads for the same price as a black one. mine is only a little over a year old and the black 1ks have been out for about two years right? how long have the blue/red ones been out? YET, in the past six months they sneak it in under the rader; and by that i mean that it's not advertised in the slightest way.

WHY oh why didn't they just make the black one a newer xl version, charge a little more and really do it up right?

oh, jesus. i can see that akai has a responsibility about updating the os, but seriously though... if you buy shit new you get warranty. warranty means new pads when the old ones get busted.
should i **** complain about that i ruin my crossfaders with scratching, WHICH MOSTLY ARE LABELED UNWARRANTED, and HAVE to change them for allmost a $100 half a year if cleaning them doesn't help?
should i be **** mad at the manufacturer then for not using non-contact faders?

in all honesty, akai didn't screw you over. you get what you pay for in this world. plus there are many more alternatives out there than just a mpc although it doesn't like there is. A friend of mine uses a sequencer from an independent company that you assemble yourself, it's about the same size that the mpc 1000 is without pads, and he uses a mpd24 with it.
The name of the sequencer doesn't pop up at the moment, but search the google for it, it's quite nice.
plus there are plenty other underground hardware sequencers out there waiting to get bought.

design flaw caused the break, not acceptable use

if your crossfader had a design flaw, yes you should complain.

should i be **** mad at the manufacturer then for not using non-contact faders?

yes, if they advertised that machine used non contact faders. see the correlation?

Everything you buy has a "design flaw". There is always a way to make something better or more durable that is known but will not make it into the released product. Akai fixed it and people still complain. Maybe we should have all done more research before we bought the 1k and we would have seen this supposedly apparent design flaw. I got mine about 2 weeks after they were released. I am on it about 2 hours a day every day, I transport it to work with me 5 days a week. My pads all work fine. I take care of my machine. I do feel bad for those that had their pads go bad, but if it happened after the warranty, too bad.

They shouldn't make new pads then? I guess you would be happier if your shit stayed broke. WTF?

haha, shit, you're really so angry at akai you're actually twisting what they say?
but where is it stated that the mpc 1000 has interlink fsr's?
"Velocity and pressure sensitive pads for expressive programming" doesn't mean "Velocity and pressure sensitive pads with fsr technology for expressive programming"
PLUS YOU HAD WARRANTY FOR THEM PADS. you have really no reason to complain. in the studio world you get what you pay for.
By 52ftBuddha Wed Nov 14, 2007 8:35 pm
I am not sure quite where to begin as many of the more vitriolic responses seem quite impassioned. My MPC remains unbroken, I am the fool for having bought an MPC with pad construction that differed significantly from the original interlink design. I would suggest that when I bought it I was hoping for the original pad design.
What I wish to convey remains. As an original purchaser the warranty of this pad design that is clearly defective should be bore by the manufacturer. For those like myself that have a functioning MPC we should be able to purchase the parts at a reasonable cost.
In my real life I am production shop planner for the DOD that had minor electronics parts purchses in fy07 exceeding 1.7mil. In such I know the cost of a part or two, I also know what it takes to strike a contract to manufacure the said parts. If I am making all that up maybe you should listen to Nym the man who helped you out before AKAI started charging you $200.
As for my favorite comment of them all “In the studio world you get what you pay for" What exactly does that mean, where is the studio world you refer to? I suspect it is in the ritch fantasy life you currently lead.

Your MPC is defect free...but you're still unhappy with it? Why worry? I've had mine since the day it was released, have hammered it almost daily and it is still as good as new.

My advice - make beats and don't worry about stuff that may never happen.

Your advice is sound; unfortunately my MPC is used by clients and a few non paying punters that I like. In such the merest chance that it will go out during use is not something I wish to sustain. Different strokes for different folks, it comes down to people in the market place dealing with their customers in a shoddy way. It is the same reason I don’t have any Roland gear in my workspace either. Hey thank dog for VSTI’s eh. Simply would you shop at Turnkey go ahead ask yourself.

Please list me to a site so I can make them myself. If it's only going to cost me some times and less than $50 then it should be worth it. If you don't know then I don't understand.
