S900/S950 just adds 12-bit sampling. The 2000/3000/1000/2500/500 all have more sampling time than the S900/S950. The low pass filter on the S900/S950 is one of the best. You can really filter out some thick basslines with it. Another great feature on the S900/S950 is the test tone which you can get some really deep bass out of. The test tone was used by a lot of early Hip-Hop producers to stack under their kicks to add that real deep boom (jeep knockin). The S900/S950 is still a good piece of equipment. You can play 16 samples at one time via MIDI controller. You can pick up one of these bad boys for cheap off of craigslist.

the s950/900 are vintage samplers. Premo used to chop in the s900 i believe. It would just be an advantage to be able to use different samplers.

since i bought the s950 i dont even sample anything with my 2000xl.
i use it just as a midi controller. i only sample with tha mpc if the s950 runs out of memory. thats it.
i must say the s950 sounds waaay better and its workflow somehow had a positive effect on my creativity.
lots of my beats are done "accidentally" now and they sound better than those "planned, intended" beats i did solely on the mpc.
if you know what i mean.....
you never know how its gonna end with the s950. he will take you to new ideas.
and with the right mixer, you can really get some deep, dope, powerful sounds.

I'm seriously thinking of getting an S-950 too. This cat is selling one with no scsi, memory upgrade or individual outs for $125.
I got an ASR-10 with no SCSI and it sucks so I don't want to go that route again.
What do you fellas think? Is it worth it for that much and no scsi/memory?

but i dont think that every type of scsi hard disk will be recognized by the s950.
dont know about the prices in the u.s., but it sounds good.
i bought my s950 without any expansions. sometimes its running out of memory, but there's various tricks to have more sampletime than 10 seconds.
i say go for it, you'll love it.
and then, you will love it that much that you will buy another "maxed out" one for working with, and the first one just for your hall-of-fame!

i dont think you need scsi for the s950..

it has a max of 2.xx megs of memory..

floppy disks are sufficient in my opinion...

Very nice is the fully adjustable samplingrate (up to 48khz). Also resampling after recording can be done quickly. Sample duration is 10 seconds at highest sample rate and can be expanded to 30 seconds with two memory expansions. Among the use of variable sampling rates sample duration can be increased noticeably. That's why this tool could be a great tool for 12bit fans which like to have more than only 12 seconds like on an SP 1200. If you want to connect s 950 and harddisk (only up to 60 MB), watch out for devices with already installed SCSI board.
