reaper v. 2.020: MTC sync and more (see last page)

reaper is the best DAW i've used. i never thought i would give up ableton, but reaper's workflow is too dope for me to pass up.

and the "demo" is actually uncrippled and never expires, so you can try it for years and years without any problems. but reaper is so sick (and updated so often) that i finally felt guilty enough to register it (and honestly thats never happened to me before).

well worth trying it out!

what about midi sync? is it possible to sync my 2500 with reaper so when i hit play on the mpc reaper starts as well?

You can sync via midi. I suggest you download the pdf manual and give it a read.

Ive been playing with this thing all day. I am dumping an old Pro Tools seesion in there as we speak. I wanna see what it can do with multiple tracks (23 in this session).

I like the fact that it registered all the effects from Sound Forge 8. Ive never really used vst's and dx-thingies before, so its cool to be able to mix with the effects i like from Sound Forge. I even had it rewired to Reason for dumping files. I have to figure out the latency issue with recording from Reason via ReWire.

All in all, a great find. Im still shocked that Im doing all of this from a 2gig jump drive.

actually can't sync via mtc yet. i imagine it will happen.

i stand behind this program 100%
i'd say more, but i am still nothing but an intermediate reaper user. for now.

and i swear, the more you use reaper the more you realize it can do so many little things right under your nose that you never would have realized. there's been plenty of times where i thought "damn, i wish reaper had this function..." but then reading their message board, i'm like "oh sh|t, it CAN do that..."

perfect example: for the longest time i never realized that clicking on the "BPM" tag on the bottom of the screen is actually the tap tempo button for your reaper session!

and the routing for sidechaining and ducking tracks is GREAT...

didnt think it could do mtc yet either buuut...

go up to the insert menu and choose "SMPTE LTC/MTC Timecode Generator".
right click on the inserted track and go to source properties, uncheck LTC and check MTC.

just tried this and seems to work alright so far.

reaper is for mac, now, they're getting the os x reaper version up to speed.

what's good about it? it's an incredibly fast and customizable interface for DAWing. everythign can be assigned to hotkeys. workflow is lightning. the program isn't bloated. the community is incredible. routing is beyond compare. updates are often twice a week. users get a say in what features get implemented.

it uses a really high cost/high performance stretching algorithm (elastique)
you can wave warp like in Alive (little different, same result)

coded by teh same guy who coded the first winamp before it was bought/bloated by AOL

all around ass kicking daw. MANY many converts from protools and cubase swear by reaper.

in short, it's the JJ os of daws. similar frequent updates, similar user-programmer dialog, similar excited and helpful community.

once reaper gets the ability too be synched via mtc, i'll give pro tools and cubase a good ol "**** you" aswell
