My 3000 Is On It's Way, It's Here! Check It

What's up everyone,

So I've wanted a 3000 for ever and today I finally pulled the trigger. I bought one from Guitar Center and while I got a good price (849.99) I have a few concerns.

The 3000 is being shipped from Naperville IL.. It has OS 3.0 which means that it is oooolld right? So my questions are what are my options for upgrading the OS? I can't swing Rohan's 3.5 just yet (but I'm saving my pennies) and from what I searched and read booting a newer OS from floppy can compromise some things. Can I still find ROM chips for a newer OS for sale and if so how expensive are they. Also, are the 3.10 chips for sale from Roger Linn's site for the 60 the same aswhat would go in a 3000? And with being an older old machine, what things should I look for that might indicate my 3000 could be a money pit waiting to happen? Thanks for any feedback. If your machine is installed with OS 3.00 or less than 3.08 then it is highly possible a floppy boot will not run/boot/work correctly.

Best to see what your unit ships with.

Guitar Center might say 3.00 but that may just be an error on their part.

Compromises as follows:

1: In some cases booting from a floppy can not be achieved at all.

2: In every other case where a floppy can be booted;

...... the sequencer memory is reduced.

...... the system is potentially destabilized as a result of "temporary OS in RAM running over the top of permanent one in ROM".

Any users who upgraded to my Vailixi OS may have 3.11 OS ROM PULLS available for supply to you.

No they are not.
Different chips containing code that suits MPC60/ASQ10 only hardware.

Any component that gets hit or touched by human hands is usually the first to let go:

Switch tops.
Tact switches on the circuit boards that are underneath the switch tops.
Pads.
Pad sensor block that is under the pads.
Rotary encoder dial top.
Rotary encoder.

Next the LCD back light.
Maybe the LCD back light driver transformer.

To a lesser extent, rear panel jack sockets.

Don't sweat though. See how the unit is when you get it before freaking out at what could or might be wrong with it

If it is too bad, you can always send it back to Guitar Center for a full refund.

OK, so the 3000 is here. I was up until almost 4 am having a blast with it. It is pretty clean with only a few scratches and dings. The screen is very good so I won't need to put $ into that. It has OS 3.08. No memory expansion because it says I have 20 something secs stereo sample time. All the buttons, pads and knobs feel sturdy and are responsive. My only real worry is that every third or fourth time I turn on the machine all the lights come on and there is no text on the screen. It just stays lit up like it's frozen. Any one familiar with thyis problem? Is the 3.08 OS stable enough that I should not even sweat it? Is the memory for the 3000 as cheap and easy to install as it was in my 2000? I think this one is a keeper if the boot up problem is nothing to serious. What do you guys think? Thanks

Man, what a beast of a machine! I had only ever seen one once before and have been curious about it's workflow and build for ever. I can honestly say it surpasses all my expectations. Built to last, simple, elegant. Everything I need and nothing I don't. I'm cheesin right now. My 2000XL is going to be upset. I called Bruce Forat and he said the boot problem could have to do with a batch of 3000s they made early on that they had to use a different brand chip or something like that. He's checking on the serial # for me. Hopefully Guitar Center can refund me some of my loot and I can have Bruce go through the whole thing.

skweezy, what's up with them chips?

GC ain't gonna refund you shiet I bet if it was a consignment piece which I am sure it was. Oh and $50 bucks for memory is a rip off VST sell's it $20.
