thats ****! they are blatantly trying to rip you off as well as taking ages for the repair and wasting your money on postage.
if i were you i would:
_ prepare your story nicely arranged written on a paper.
_ phone TSI, ask to speak to the manager, tell your story and ask explaination for 1) why is your mpc not repaired yet. 2) why did they ask you to send your memory chip if they have some handy (and it is a known fact that memory sticks are of standard size).
_ then phone akai to complain about TSI dodgy practice, and about the 2 different design for the RAM holder (you might need some pics to prove that though).

morality of the story: for repair avoid TSI and go for VST. :/

so what's the latest?

Did you get it back? How much did it cost total?

Anyone else have this problem?

I'd like to get mine fixed eventually.
