reaper v. 2.020: MTC sync and more (see last page)

I got Reason 1.01 to run off of the jump drive. Problem is, it cancled out the ReWire option in Reaper. Not sure why, but i think it has to do with the fact that it Reason was installed on my laptop at the same time. Things got buggy when trying to open projects for the Reason installed on my laptop, as well as the the install on the jump drive.

When i went to remove the program from the control panel, the file size was doubled. I think I will need to remove the install from the laptop for this to actually work as planned.

i'd be content just runnin reason from laptop or pc, i guess, and copying the refill directory from both machines.

meanwhile, i highly recommend using the superwave p8 with reaper. i've recently been stacking vsts with my samples, interpolating certain notes with synths and stuff, and enjoying the result

i just wish i could spend much more time learning this program. i don't really understand sends n shit yet

but the usb trick is a great one if you use 2 computers, 1 music and 1 school/interpersonal. this way, you only have to update 1 copy of reaper each time.

I cant get my midi controller to work with Reaper!! It registers, but i cant play the synth. Any suggestions?

it took me a minute, too.

after enabling your controller in prefs, open a track, set the vsti as your effect.
hit the record button to activate it, then set it to incoming midi all channels
turn the RECORD MONITOR on so that you're monitoring the incoming midi notes.

play away. i think that's the way i do it, but of course i've saved track templates of each of my vstis so i can just load em and play their default presets with the click of a mouse...

Nice. Thanks. I just downloaded the Superwave P8. Looks interesting. I read some good reviews.

it's cool to have people here interested in reaper. hopefully more will see the many reasons.

what i can't wait for is the ability to create multiple tracks in reaper, each taking a different midi channel, and route the midi output all back to the parent track on which REASON is a vsti. then, through rearoute i'll make all the individual instruments in reason correspond to the proper reaper tracks...
set up each one of those tracks as i explained in my last post, and boom.

reason, from within reaper, with the added bonus of being able to assign vst and dx effects to the individual reason instruments.

yo Ant. I just tried everything you said, and i still get audio coming into the laptop via the built in mic!!! Im not sure what im doing wrong.

right click the fluctuating level that you see (from your laptop mic) and go down to MIDI input. once you've assigned a midi input, you shouldn't still be getting audio. did you do that?

ok there's 3 ways i know of to do this...

record a midi track of yourself playing
right click on what you just recorded
select "apply FX to items as a new take"

this renders your midi into audio and places it whereever you're midi event was.
its actually making it an alternate take, which is dope because you can hit "T" and switch between takes.

so if you've done this to make your midi track into audio, and then later realize you need to edit some of the midi, just hit "T" and you can immediately switch back to your original midi take.

if you know you will never need the midi, you can right click on the volume meter and select "record out (latency compensated)"

now when you record on this midi track, instead of recording the midi it will record the actual audio from your midi track (also shifts it a little to compensate for latency)

you can route the out of your midi track to an audio track and record the audio on the audio track. but with the other two options being available i rarely use this method anymore...

nice tips!! So far I am really impressed with reaper 2.0...Going to use it as my main daw on my laptop.

I did the same thing with the built in mic....!! kind of fun to listen to the hard drive spin through cans though.

Wow, freeware (or at least very cheapware) has really come a long way.....

I am running a freeware sampler (Shortcircuit) with Reaper, Wavepad, and Superwave P8....Whoa. And I only made it a quarter of the way down 3rd optic's list.

Anybody that needs a sampler to go along with Reaper, definitely give Shortcircuit a try if you haven't yet!!!!

yeah, shortcircuit is the best freeware sampler hands down!!

Reaper update (v2.012 - November 23 2007) in case anyone missed it. Also, being that Reaper can run from mass storage devices, I dont see why it cant run on lets say an MPC1000/4000, or any other piece of gear that can be used as a mass storage device.

I-Pods, other mp3 players, keyboard workstations, multitrack recorders, cell phones, pda's, or whatever you choose to install it on. Things got interesting when I thought of the possibilities.

Even if its running from a mass storage device, it is still dependent on the "machine" it is running on to be using a Windows operating system. This will not be true for most of the devices you listed.

Nice thought though.
