Exchange tips and tricks for the Akai MPC4000

I don't know what the **** is going on and I'm real pissed. I thought I got this figured out. I get the sample all looping perfectly in the trim/loop screen. It's looping like a dream. I put it in a sequence...set the BPM's right and there is always this little gap right at the end of the sequence. No matter what I sample, or how I timestretch, or whatever...what gives? I am so pissed off. Upping the BPM's doesn't get rid of the gap it goes to a smidge better than worse because overlapping starts to happen...I dunno..............Somebody help me out!

I even tried trimming the sample and getting it looping perfect in cool edit and I got the same damn problem when I put it into a sequence and want that ish to loop. Somebody please help!

I guess you already have the latest os installed so i want bother you with that.

But what you have to do is go to misc and turn of that reset qlink off.
Im not in front of my mpc, but trie it.

yeah it could be qlink reset ,but that only causes probs when switching seqs not looping the same one...........or does it only happen when changing seqs?

It helped my problems with loops when i turned of the reset qlink option.
Wouldnt hurt to trie

I have q-links set to off. I peeped that tidbit before. This problem is happening within a sequence. I'm really pissed about it. I had no problems doing a simple loop in the 1k before. I even tried looping up stuff that I've looped on the 1k no sweat. And I'm still having the same problem with the 4k. I just don't get it. I e-mailed Akai, but you know how they are.....they might reply....they might not....and it could be at least a week or two before they do.

I can have the sample looping perfectly if set the pad to loop or sample in the zone field, but as soon as I try to get that same sound looping as a sequence it's like the ends get automatically cut off or faded, prducing a noticeable gap in the loop within a sequence. It's just slight, but it's noticeable and it's bugging the **** outta me. It sounds very much like as if you would take a perfectly looping sample then fade in and out between .03-.05 onthe fade in/out screen on the sample edit page. That's almost the effect I'm getting when trying to loop.

sup one,
it could be "Truncate duration" in the misc menu ...try playing about with this setting and replay ur performance.
or go to sample trim page move cursor to play mode and push the window key and check out the loop type etc
amp envelopes could be it, check them.
also check ur wave res in the sample edit page by pushing the window key on view.
if not, does it still do it only do it with loops and after u record a performance?

====I have the same result no matter what setting this is at.

or go to sample trim page move cursor to play mode and push the window key and check out the loop type etc

====I put it on every play mode, tried crossfading the loop, using the loop find feat., start and end point find, tried extracting the loop from all different windows: loop, trim, and region. Tried not extracting the loop and
just using the set loop points on the loop field...that didn't work...don't know what else to try in there.

amp envelopes could be it, check them.

====Checked amp envolopes. There was some decay on there. Took off the decay (it was set to 50), but it didn't do anything. I even set it so it effected all samples...nada!

also check ur wave res in the sample edit page by pushing the window key on view.

====It was set to linear-bipolar-on

if not, does it still do it only do it with loops and after u record a performance?

====When just doing drum tracks or chops it seems fine mostly because that style isn't as dependent on accurateness as a simple music loop is. When I need a sample to loop for a whole sequence it's not happening very accurately at all. But I do get it looping perfectly in the loop/trim page, and it loops perfectly when I go to zone page under program, set the sample to loop, and just hold down the pad. But when I upen up step edit and record the sample right on 001.01.000 I get that effect where the ends seem slightly chopped off when the seqence plays. The gap seems to be right at the end of the sequence, but it's hard to tell.

Also If I record it manually I have the same problem, and it doesn't matter what setting I have it as far as zone (one shot, loop, etc.), and what setting I have it under as far as the truncate samples screen is concerned. The samples that I'm trying loop are always cut just short of the sequence length. And the ends are cut off because if I jack up the BPM's to try and fill in the gap...it doesn't loop right it sounds choppy and/or the ends overlap.

Oh, and just to make it clear...I have the same problem whether I edit the sample on the 4k or software.

I also just noticed that when I export the sample straight from memory into ax.sys and load it in cool edit...it loops percectly there as well. Just not in a damn sequence.

did you try messing with the duration on the main page

Hmmn step back and look back at what may have happen I know how you feel, but understand it may be something you forgot to do or mistaken along the way and months for now you will laugh and say Damn I didn`t know that. But I ask how long is your loop and have you tried looping in the sequence instead of using looping from the sample/trim page? Also AWW-NAWW talked about using duration with a no loop sample. Try going to seq edit and according to the number of bars your loop is enter your loop set at no loop. Then go to step edit and enter the duration. I hope it helps :D

Leave the sample in question a little longer than you actually need it, then set the sample to a polyphony of 1 so that the sample cancels itself out each time it is triggered. Let the sequence loop the sample for you like the other cats mentioned. If you can't get a perfect loop by doing this then you have some sort of major problem that is systemic with your machine. Good luck.

ARRRGGGHH! This is quite the hassle. I'll try those suggestions. This sucks! I never had this problem with the 1k. The 1k you just set the Bpm's put the sample as a one shot, put it on the one in step edit and you got a perfect loop everytime. This is a bug me thinks. I hope Akai fixes it with the next update.

Thanks for the support guys I appreciate it!
