i've been meaning to post this as a sugestion before i knew about this os v.2 , because i kept having to import my layered kiks to battery to use it's far superior envelopes to sculpt sine waves to lay under the kiks, extremely usefull. I think that the envelopes in Native Instruments Battery would be a really good model to base the new adsr on , it's very accurate. (if he's gonna go through the trouble to do it, may as well go all the way). If any of you get a chance to compare the two, let us know how they match up.

I used Battery as well before I switched to the 1k.
The new ADSR in OS2 looks nice but I wonder if the envelopes of the 1k work with linear or expo-cuves. (Never did any testing, but it sounds kinda stiff to me) Batterys EGs work with exponential charakeristic, which makes the fadeout sound more realistic.

I agree that the current design of the AD-Envelope in the 1k does not give that much flexibility to model the amplitude. Very obstinate concept.
One good improvement would be to have longer decaytimes in "start"-mode. That might be fixed by the new "release"-parameter in OS2.

BTW there will be another nice one in OS2: pitch-envelopes!
Very usefull to give some more punch to sinewaves
or other deep-frequency samples. I missed that all the time,
working with the mpc.

so let me see if i understand

with aftertouch on a filter, if i hit and hold the pad with decreasing pressure, the filter would "come on" gently inversely related to when i hit and hold the pad?

likewise with pitch, and level?

this is as big a deal as having a whole new set of qlink functions, it essentially just routes the qreal functions to the pads themselves.....soo sick...

@Antonym

What's more, you have one for each sample! I have missed this since I first got my filthy little fingers on an mpc - you can get really wild expressive if this is the case. I hope the 2500 also gets this update.

aftertouch is something that is criminally underused in the current OS. like nym said it makes each pad function like a slider & allows more expressiveness to your playing, maybe not so much with beats but more with melodic samples. you can tweak the sample while it is playing by varying the pressure on the pad.

hopefully, jj can expand the amount of things that can be controlled by qlink & aftertouch. i'd like to be able to control fx settings & routings with them. you could have your setup with the pads in bank d empty, & then set aftertouch on those pads to control a bunch of different things. switch to bank d & it will be like giving yourself 16 sliders to mess with.

wow.

this thing is going to have reaally impressive synth properties.
does only the 4000 use aftertouch in the mpc line?
i definitely see how this is more of an INST program thing than a drum program thing. however, you could use it interestingly with snares too, better use of 1 sound for multiple timbres. set velocity - filter envelopes, + aftertouch. you'd be hard pressed to get the same sound 2 times...

pad aftertouch -> midi cc would be a great (and logical) progression.

no need for that, there is already a midi message called polyphonic aftertouch. (sometimes referred to as "poly pressure").

it looks like that aftertouch will be assignable to lfo's (i think the depth, would be great if it could be assigned to the rate setting...)

yeah that's actually the one i was referring to, you're right there's no need to assign just any old cc to aftertouch, just aftertouch.
