If you feel like answering...

These are some questions I've had over and over again.
Probley I'm not the only one with them and the manual just plain sucks at explaining it, if you got time maybe someone could go through and explain what these things are on the mpc:


On the Midi Input Screen:
1. Rec ch?

Should this be on ALL? or should it match the midi channel of a keybord? Which Keybord if in a multi-keybord setup?

2. Program ch> seq:

Should this be on or off? What does it do?



On the Midi Output Screen:
3. Soft thru:

What is this about? Do you want it as AS TRACK?
What do the others omni a b ab and off do?



Other Stuff:

4. Does changing it from Single to Multi track recording effect midi at all?

The S that changes to the M at the waaay bottom left of the main screen.

5. Above Velocity where it says PGM-transmit changes yes or no,
What should it be on if you not using a multitimberal keybord?

I have 2 keybords going into the mpc2000xl. Neither are multitimberal.
The out from keys 1 & 2 are plugged into the mpc.
All I want to do forever now is just to have sequence 1 play a track with keybord 1 on track 1 and keybord 2 on track 2 and I should be able to do this but it never works and I try every combination on the midi input and outputs screen but it still never works.
So these are all just questions abot what these screens do that I've been wondering about forever.
I'v read the manual and books on midi but I guess what I need to learn is too specific to the mpc2000xl to be in these books.

i can't answer all your questions but i can help you out a bit.

to setup up your keyboard you need to have them in this setup

MIDI OUT (MPC) > Keyboard 1 (IN) > Keyboard 1 (THRU) > Keyboard 2 (IN)

on each keyboard you need to set which Midi channel will trigger it. i assume you want to record the midi in and have the mpc output the correct midi channel to the correct keyboard. i'm not sure how you would do it cause i don't know your keyboard models but that should be well documented in the prospective manuals how to set that up. just remember the "DRUM:device01" is the midi channel number 1 being output (other channels different numbers).


some more direct answers to your questions...

2) the pgm: parameter is to control internal DRUM program assignments. peep the newbie bible. it's the piece about program changes.

3) soft THRU just lets you replicate whatever the MIDI input is to the MIDI outputs. you can have it go through the track, output a/b or both at the same time.

4. Yes there's a difference. Changing to multichannel will allow you to record more than one midichannel in one go. This is the only way to go if you would have to record two keyboardplayers (or can play a second keyboard with your feet).

5. Set it to off for now. You won't need this unless you want to change patches on either keyboard from your mpc.
