Getting 4000 in near future - Need your honest gripes.

All you long-time users, I'd appreciate it if you can talk about some issues you have with the 4000.

I got a question about sample auditioning, keep in mind that I don't know how the sampling procedure goes down. Basically, if I'm in the sequence screen and I'm playing a sequence or just banging on the pads, would I be able to hear an external audio source that's connected to the 4000? I've read that it's not possible to audition samples while sequencing, but can the external sound source still be heard while in sequence mode?

No sampling while in sequence mode, but you can play a sequence while in record mode. But this is not a gripe for me.

my gripes use to be the filters because they sounded so digital, then I seen that they had envelopes if you hit the window button then I was able to find what I wanted, not the best but what I needed. Next I complaied about the distortion effects and the effects as a whole, then I used the enhancer effect and was able to get what I wanted. So basiclly while I have had ups and downs most of what I wanted was there and not really hard to find once I started to really navagate the machine. My real gripe though is once you have used a 1k or 25k, you will complain about the speed. Those 2 machines really move, but don't quite have the thump that I have noticed with the 4k.


As for your questions no I don't think thats possible, but I know you can go to the sample record screen and have a external source playing in and your sequence playing at the same time. I should read all post,lol. I just seen the other poster posted this already.

I'm being cautious, I don't want akai releasing some 4000 and 2500 hybrid right after i buy the 4000.

^you know it's going to happen, unless they plan on taking it different direction. like midi controllers, cuz the 2500 sure dont boost enough sales to support all the slackers at akai.


that's why my 4000 on ebay now. I'm waiting for next summer namm, cuz I think something should pop up either in 08 or 09. Until then I'm rockin 2500 and Live for time being.

I ditched it cuz 4k wasnt in a very good condition, originally bought it for quick turnaround, and I scared something else is coming out in the near future.

Didnt think this would happen, but I actually grew attatched to the 2500. It's been good to me, I'm using it along the side of Live and it serves that purpose real good.

I love the sound and functionallity of the 4000 tho, I'll be on the look out for a good deal. I gotta have them both

It's all good K., we understand. As a word of wisdom...be careful with this next generation of "the mightiest MPC ever". I'm leary of Nukai being able to continue an age old tradition of putting together something that'll take the industry by storm. But then again, I could be wrong. But in your case with having a BAD 4k, I feel you were shorted on what this machine really has to offer.

I dont think there will ever be a "high end" mpc again Im afraid. Dontquote me on it but thats my gut feeling.

hell if the 2.5k had came out first that would have been it for me but since I have the 4k there is really nothing else I need as far as out board gear

My gripe is probably minor for most users but major for me.

There's an inherrent delay in the machine when triggering samples.

What I mean is if I assign the same sound to 2 pads and have them trigger together, they flange a bit instead of just playing 6db louder.

If you're in a daw and you double a track, it doesn't flange because there is no delay between the tracks.


In the MPC this messes up the drum layering possibilities. Alot of times when I'm mixing, I'll mult my kicks/snrs etc... with different parts of the signal receiving processing from different plugs/outboard etc.... I wish I could sample each part of the mult and play them from different pads in the MPC, IF I could, I could basically mix my drums in the MPC without a DAW.
