8 out st /mono assigning

got my 8 oy board on sat. that sh** rocks, what have i been missing, is this correct?
when you have a stereo sample of a kick, selected on ch1/2 i can not just assign the kick alone on 1 without it comin up ch2 on my desk as well can i . with mono its no prob!!

Stero = right and left there for using two channels
Mono = left only using one channel

You can resample and make it mono if necessary

respect
