you have to take a look at what software you have running on your computer. rewire has nothing to do with the mpc. rewire is a software to reason utility. you would normally get that message if you have cubase, protools, ect. running at the same time as reason and you shut reason off last. as far as it not being able to play sounds and freezing, i would take a look at the way you have reason configured (do you have your reason modules going to the right midi channel in reason, do you have the correct midi interface selected in reason)and your midi cables. do you have the mpc setup properly?

check all of these things and report back.

This has happened with only reason running. I checked all my settings and connections, their all in the right spots. It is exactly the way I had it hooked up before I moved it. Is it possible that it is reading the audio interface as a software??? Everything in reason looks right, I can only think that the problem lies in the controller/interface????

yeah it seems to help!! but I am compfused... he says I have midi cable going out of my mpc... but he doesnt say witch and where... and after he says his oxygen8 is plugged with USB on his PC but the midi out he says he plugs it... WHERE??? I'm a little lost and new!! help!

yeah I know its a little vague. The way i understand it and have it hooked up is through an audio interface which is built in to my controller, midi into the contoller from the mpc, and and out of my mpc into the controller (2 cables.) assuming the audio interface is not nessesary you would hook it up the same way. other wise you would need an audio interface? hope that is of some help.

cullings wrote:Everything ive done so far is text book, i can trigger sounds from both my mpc and from my novation midi controller..
Yet when i record my midi sequence on my mpc2000...the very 1st note that is triggered is out of time??
Now i have tried waiting for a pass on the loop and doing an overdub, tried the midi clock sync option in reason too.

my midi/sync preferences in the mpc i have dicked around with...at the moment my "sync in" is set to "midi clock" and the "sync out" is "off"
I can only put it down to my midi controller..but i wouldnt think it would be that.

Is there anyone who actually uses reason 3.0 with a classic 2000 and really knows the setup or is this something all so simple ive missed, cause untill then...im just going to have to sample my keys..
cheers
Great vid all the same it got me this far!

man this is an old post but im having that First note triggered out of time too! using 2000 classic and reason 3.0...

Hey - awesome video, helped me heaps.

im running a 1000, oxygen 8, mbox 2 for sound card - but it will only let me record on 3 channels, then anything i try to assign just stays mute. i know this is something to do with ins and outs but i dont know what or why or how to fix it - do i need an additional sound card and to run them both to reason?

thanks

What version of Reason are you running... better yet... I made a template like 2 years ago that I use to stop mine from muting.... Ill grab it from my Studio and Post it if i can remember... I hardly ever come to this side of the forums, but ill see what i Can do

and by the way, nah, u dont need nonthin else extra besides maybe 2 Midi Cables...

also are you able to hit the pads on the MPC 1000 and trigger sounds at all, and they show up in the Reason Mixer muted

When you mean freeze up... are you saying the program will freeze up, or if you play the Horns or Strings, is it non stop Sustain

When im using Reason 4 and my mpc together it works fine. When i load up reason with pro tools it says midi device in use (im using a 003 by the way). When i had my mbox2pro it didnt happen is there sumthin i need to turn off in the midi seetings???
By 4dahaterz Tue Jun 03, 2008 12:24 am
yeah, i always get that as well.... It wont mess up with what Pro Tools and Reason got going on, If you mash the spacebar or it play on the 003 it should still start and stop Reason

Are you using a Midi Keyboard as well, if so, is it USB or what

I know this is an old topic, Here is my Issue.

I have everything set up correctly with my hardware:

-MPC2000XL
-Reason4 Running on Laptop
-M-audio Ozone Keyboard

I have MPC MIDI IN 1 going to KEYBOARD MIDI OUT on Ozone, and the USB MIDI OUT from Keyboard going to the MIDI OUT A on the MPC, and I have the USB OUT Cable going to Laptop (I'm sure you are asking why I have the KEYBOARD USB MIDI OUT going to the OUTPUTA of the MPC) Well Thats part of my confusion (Further down)

What is happening is that I can play my Keyboard and Trigger MPC sounds, and I can also play Reason sounds, (And even record the midi data from my keyboard as long as i use MPC sounds exclusively) but The Midi date is not getting passed from the MPC to reason to trigger/record the sounds.

HERE IS WHERE THE HEADACHE LIES:

The back of my Ozone is kind of confusing it has the following ports:

-2 Midi ports labeled OUTPUT (5pin DIN) and both are labeled individually as KEYBOARD and USB.
-the 3rd port (actual USB port) is labeled USB and is going to the laptop Reason4

here is a picture:

Image

so that sort of indicates that there is no MIDI INPUT to pass the MPC data along to REASON......which means I am SOL with this model of Keyboard....BUT WAIT here is the conflict, when i click on the driver icon in the system tray it pops up this:

Image

Which implies that there is a MIDI INPUT feature.

The Manual also has this diagram, further insinuating that the USB MIDI OUT port is in actuality an INPUT.

Anyone have this stupid Keyboard that can offer any help?

Ok, both of those ports on the back of that keyboard are MIDI Outs(not MIDI Ins). Before I proceed further, do you have any USB outputs coming from the Computer or your audio interface(by the way, what kinda audio interface are you using, if any?)?

I forgot which port I actually use, but I usually try both when i replug up my keyboard(because i always forget which one it is). But you should be hooked up like this to play your Reason sounds from your MPC.

MPC MIDI Input(doesnt matter which one) to the Output of the MIDI keyboard(if you wanna wait til about a hour, i can tell you when i get to my studio or you can play with both outputs).

After you connect that, you should be able to hit the sounds from MPC via the keyboard, if this is working, your keyboard is functioning properly.

Next take one of your MPC MIDI Outs and connect it with a MIDI Input coming from your Computer(this could be thru your Audio interface if it has a MIDI Input, a USB MIDI interface such as the M-Audio Uno, or etc... I think some USB MIDI keyboards actually do have a MIDI Out on them, but this is not one of them). BUT YOU WILL NEED A MIDI INPUT COMING FROM YOUR COMPUTER!

Next, you should be able to proceed along with the video if the video still works, if not, this video could help you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QKVjoUSoxo
