Hello Northwest diggers
I'm going to hip you to one of my favorite spots because....... I just started working there last month! If you don't already, please come down to Jive Time Records at 3506 Fremont Ave N (Right in the middle of Fremont AKA the Center of the Universe). I only do the 12" sections and evaluate 12" collections, so I am only in on Thursday afternoons, but drop by any time and you will gauranteed find something you can't live without. I'm serious, it's that good.
I was wondering if I should post this or not because it's "blatant self promotion", but really I am doing you a favor if you don't already hit this spot. Also since I only work there a couple hours a week I don't do this for the money, I do it for the HEAT!
I noticed from reading this forum that a lot of you are really jazzed about finding relatively common records that we put in the one and three dollar bins every day (no exaggeration). At this shop we are constantly and actively out digging and buying soul/jazz/rock/disco/world collections because we are trying to find the real expensive platters that adorn the walls. This means that we have to blow out the other stuff to make room. Unlike other local shops, nothing just sits there... we make it move out the door.
I think some diggers might be put off because the store is nice and clean and you see the stuff like OG Purdie Soul Drums or Snatch and the Poontangs on the wall for $80. If so, they are sleeping bigtime on the dollar and three dollar bins (and the underground annex in the antique mall across the street, shhhhhh.....). It's a lot of the same type of stuff, just not in collector condition but perfect for sampling. Besides, you're looking for stuff that hasn't been used, right? And even if you can't afford collector prices for some of the rares, it's cool to be able to actually see them because it gets you that much closer to finding them in the Goodwill bins or whatever. We have listening stations and even a breaks section for the terminally lazy.
So, sorry if this is too much "advertising" for yall but dangit this shop is known worldwide by collectors, djs, and dealers... but is way slept on by the bargian hunters and sample heads. What happened is I was reading this forum last night and then today I went to work and saw so much obscure stuff for sampling on the cheap that I could not remain silent any longer. Please clear out my dollar 12s, it's full of good stuff not crap like other stores (we throw the crap in the dumpster, so check there if that's what you're after).
Also stop by and see me (Thursday) if you just want to talk about MPCs DJing and records, if you have good 12s to sell, or if you are a beginner and you need help to get your collection started on the cheap.
