Ok, as promised, the update.
The DVD is being finished this weekend and then it's artwork blah blah.
So, for those who have been waiting for the content update, here it is.
This DVD is for intermediate and advanced users and is meant as a 'volume 2' to the 'Beat making on the MPC2500' ebook. All sections carry live visual and audio examples including all programs and project files, samples etc.
No specific order:
Midi: Advanced. Using MSB/LSB for program changes of external midi devices including bank and program changes within performance mode.
Internal program changes are also covered using the step editor.
Connectivity: This entails connecting the MPC to a controller keyboard, sound modules, mixer and DAW for syncing purposes. The controller can input notes on the MPC as well as the MPC (this always throws people off).
Further connectivity includes cabling for tracking into DAW.
The above cabling allows the user to use vstis, sync, MPC, external sound module and master keyboard controller.
Sync: Syncing MPC as slave to host sequencer and as master to both host sequencer and all slaved midi devices for allowing program changes to be sent to the right module etc. DAW is also explained and how to set up sync mode, frame rates, timecode etc within the DAW as well as the MPC.
Input Thru and Resampling: An area that many get confused on. This will entail using effects and dynamics in both resampling and input thru sampling tasks.
Resampling the main outs of the MPC for creating sequences assigned to individual pads for live use. Q-Link is also used to create resampled layers and effects in resample mode.
Time stretching, pitch shifting and patch phrase covered. This includes explanations for recovery, threshold and sensitivity for phrasing etc.
Midi Commands and Parameter Changes: These include all bank and program changes, tempo changes, effects changes etc.
Mixer Recording: This includes pans, levels, effects etc. In depth walk through examples of each in step edit mode and mixer mode using knobs and sliders etc. Assigning different effects to different measures of a sequence in step edit mode.
Recording and Grouping Mutes: Both in terms of individual tracks and entire mixes. Solo is also covered in realtime live use. Both in main menu options and Step Edit modes.
Live Use: Assigning sequences to pads for live use, chaining sequences in song mode, triggering sequences from main panel and using sudden, hold and clear and when it is beneficial to use which method.
LFO Tricks: Using the LFO for creating moving 808 tones, slap back snares etc.
Tracking Beats: Using both the MPC and DAW to track beats. This covers all connectivity, mixer assigns for ind outs, enabling DAW to accept channels etc. Most important is being able to track ALL outs of the MPC to DAW simultaneously instead of one at a time.
Final Mix: 3-4 different sequences, all chained with all the above taking place. This includes all live triggering, tracking, midi records (effects, pans etc).
JJ Os: A section on the features on this OS, covering Q-Link and dynamic features.
The above is a very brief outline of what is covered in the DVD.
Each and every section has relevant program/project files including all my specific kits and samples. So, at any time, if you are confused as to how something was done you only need to load the relevant project and look at my settings.
MOST IMPORTANT is that fact that this is an appendum to the Beat Making on the MPC 2500 e-book, something that goes hand-in-hand with it. I say this because if you think I am going to explain what the buttons do or what a term means then you are in for a surprise. There is no point in repeating the content in the e-book. The idea is that I have created this DVD for intermediate and advanced users and for the types of areas that are difficult for many to understand using just the manual.
Some content is crossed over but these are the areas that you have asked me to cover in earlier threads. many people have problems with sync, MSB/LSB, multi midi connectivity, realtime live use and so on. This, and all the above, is what the DVD covers.
The DVD also covers areas that are rarely touched on like workflow ethics, setup, correct order of evets etc.
MPC Tutor and I are hoping this will help in finally explaining all the areas that no one seems to be bothered to explain in detail, areas that you have asked us to cover.
The DVD is out of our hands and at the editors/duplicators and we will know shortly when it will hit the sites.
The DVD will be sold exclusively through Samplecraze, MPC-Samples and Sound On Sound.
