Source only playing threw one speaker question

Just got my 500 yesterday. When playing sounds through mpc from ipod, the sound only comes threw one speaker. After sampling the part I like & playing it. Sound starts playing correctly through left & right speaker. This prob is happening when I use both head phones & computer monitors throught the headphone jack.

Can anyone tell me why this is happening?

Im using ipod headphones & computer speakers through a stereo 1/4 to 1/8 adapter threw the earphone plug on the mpc. Hope that helps.

not sure how the 500 routes sound, but probably you need to select stereo source and not left or right input.

when you sample in mono, you will only hear the left or right side of the source, but then the sample gets panned to center for playback....

when im recording the sample it says Stereo. I can barely hear the audio coming out the other speaker. When I slightly unplug the 1/8 - 1/4 adapter, sound goes to non working speaker fine & starts to not work on the other.

sounds like you need a new cable....

I went & fished out the pkging of the wires im using to connect ipod to mpc. They are "livewire cmp-159 , stereo 3.5 (M) to Two 1\4" (M) 10 ft".

Let me know if that helps in getting to the bottom of my prob.

i mean literally: "you need a new cable." it sounds like the wire for one part of the stereo signal is busted.

it's obvious the signal is not getting through one side since you say that the half you can't hear suddenly becomes clear as you pull the wire out of the jack. when you do that, the connection switches from one half of the stereo pair to the other, so the signal is not being blocked except when the cable is fully plugged in, hence one of the two wires which carry the signal must be bad....

Bad adapter apparently. Plus, please hook your stuff right my man. Go and get yourself some quality (and appropiate) cables and be done with it, simple as that.

Went back to guitar center to see if the sales clerks could figure it out. They tried to blame everything from ipod/wires/earphones/ to earplug adapter. Finally had the guy try another mpc that was on display (which worked fine) & he said he thinks its an issue with the mpc itself. Im on my way to swap out the mpc as soon as i find the box for it. Thks for all ur help guys.
