You dont have to be a dick. I was looking for some serious inquiry as to what people think of my diggin/chopping. You act like asking for opinions automatically makes you wack. Get the **** out of my thread

the main key is to know music ,know your music, it's like djing you got to find a record with something that will move people.

get to know your oldr music...and i'm not talking about Rap music either.
know your older music and you will be good or have better knowledge then most.

if your goin to make sample based music you need to learn your history of past music.
thats the best i can tell you to do to better your dIGGIN

and/or ofcourse what MPC4kxl said as well thats a must too.

f*ck the digging

It's all about the technique.

The music is quite good! U just need some effects on there and spend some time on the mix. Make it more exciting!

Before when i started out i was worried about my samples being 'rare' enough, but i thought about it like this:

You can have all the drum breaks in the world and Kraut Rock you can boast on Soul Strut with , but if you can't manipulate that shit you might as well cut up f*cking Mantrovani and James Last records. Just look at some hardcore diggers myspace beats. You can't just get a break, slice it 4 times, stick a few horn stabs on the beat, filter a bass bar and get some backpack emcee on it .

I'm just working with what i've got at the moment and i'm glad i did. It's allowing me to improve my technique. Some people i know i amazing diggers, look as though they ain't have a life all they do is dig, but when i listen to their beats they total garbage and i'm thinking "what a waste of records!"

Yea dig up sh*t. Go deep but dig whats rare to you, what means something to you, don't think what would Madlib, DJ Shadow, that nerd i talk to on Myspace buy. Don't forget it's the skill that matters more. I'm sick and tired of internet twats thinking they should be telling people what to dig and what is worth sampling. I'd sample Sound Of Music if i could make something dope out of it and stick my fingers up at Soul Strut, Record Collector magazine, etc and shop that ish to death.

Hey i might even make a beat out of Careless Whisper! :D

Normal people wouldn't give two sh*ts about that rare turkish, rare russian prog funk you dug up if the sh*t is repetitive and wack. Ppl should focus on technique more sometimes.

sorry if i've gone on lol

my advice is learn about and listen to the greats of the genre you're into before you go to the obscure sh*t. e.g. learn about Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, Buddy Rich, Chick Corea, etc

Sure you can. Most classics were made just this way, minus the Jansport Jaw Jockey. Plus I bet even your favorite beats weren't even sliced whatsoever, just loops. You don't gotta manipulate shit, it just gotta be hot. Heck, almost every beat on Jay-Z's American Gangster were straight jacks of the original, and that album is about as close to a classic as Hip Hop has gotten in a very long time.

diggin is about one thing, good music

**** the samples **** all that shit, the bottom line is you're digging for good music, if you're just buying records because sampling records what's in at the moment, to quote a friend of mine, "im going to be happy to buy your collection in a few years"
