What do you guys think ..Should I?Logic pro 6.

1st off i have powerbookg4,mpc1k and pro tools (mbox).Ive been doing alot of reading and asking peoples opinoin on logic pro 6.and all i hear is good stuff and latley ive been hearing alot of not so bad but not so good stuff with the mbox like "over rated" and stuff.So now my friend wants to buy so is it a good idea for me?
..ive only had pt6.2.3 for like a week and havent really messed with it since i got the 1k (been learning 5 new things on the mpc and it keeps getting more detailed as i go), so i know ill be on the mpc for a while and ill have time save a little more money for logic pro 6 and a interface...i am going to be making underground "hip hop"beats.....
if you were in my shoes do you think this is a good exit or should i keep going str8 with what i have........
also can you reccomend a good interface for a fair price one thats better than the mbox tho.-Thanks Joey
ps.also the interface has to be usb or fire wire cause lapytop.

I didn't know what multitrack software to get, I heard good things about pro tools, also its the cheapest solution as you get the interface with it and it will let me decide whether I like pro tools without spending to much dough (£270).

My advice to you is mess with pro tools before you sell it for logic, they do the same thing. The only reason you should sell it is if you need more simultaneous inputs.

I just hear that you can do more with it and go futher in the future with it ive heard that people use pt (MBOX)the have to upgrade to like digi 001 or 002 rackonce they get the hang of things but i guess you would have to do the same thing with logic also.
But honestly i don't really know thats why i posted this topic cause i dont see myself stopping w/making and editing beats and trowin some of my own words on tracks.So i just want to know plain and simply which one is BETTER and you can go further with and not spending outrageous money on digidesign...-Joey
I could be totally wrong.

Logic takes a bit more to learn than your average program because it was designed by germans. But the power of Logic is DEEP!! I have used it more than PT and feel Logic is more of a musical and intuitive program. Logic 6 is definately the way forward. You can also run other interfaces besides digidesign. There are very good alternatives out there. I would suggest (if you are looking in that price range) MOTU HD or anylikewise 828 firewire for example. Even the new yamaha 01x firewire mixer/interface or the tascam firewire mixer interface's are really nice and give you great automation controll and mixing capabilities. IMO logic is bieng used by more and more producers every day. Must be a reason why....

What? you've had ProTools for a week and you're wondering if you need Logic?
Although Logic is a lot deeper in terms of editing, ProTools should be fine for you at this level. It will take you a year to learn Logic, think about it.
If you're sequencing on the mpc anyway, Logic is a waste of money.

Besides that, it's all a matter of preference. All of my friends use Logic, that doesn't mean i have to. logic gives me migraines just by looking at the screen.

Haha, I totally hear yea ieism, Logic can be a pain in the @ss to learn. I had someone who knew the program well help me out a bit with a few things. Its amazing how well a german software engineer can hide a simple function like quantize.....

I have both and LOGIC is off the hook

So is Pro-Tools but Logic in my opinion is way cooler for Midi and PT is way cooler for Audio

your Mbox isn't going to work with Logic though

Logic can be a pain in the ass to learn how to use, but it provides an amazing set of tools for making music on a computer. I've never used PT so I can't really comment on how they measure up.

If you do decide to go for Logic, don't buy a new $999 copy of Logic Pro. Look on eBay / Craigslist / classified ads for a copy of Logic Platinum 5 with XSKey and original discs. You will then be able to upgrade to Logic Pro for <$200. I managed to get my copy of Logic Pro 6 for a total outlay of about $360 this way...I didn't get the original Logic manual, but I figured that was a small price to pay.

You know what im saying is Logic is the better music making software.

But you have the mpc to make music and Pro tools to record it.
You have everything you need to make great music.

I may drop the $70 for a copy of the manual (or pick up a 3rd party guide) at some point...right now I'm still having too much fun playing with the Space Designer and EXS24ii :)

logic and protools are very expensive. i would rather go for cubase sx 2

cubase sx costs around $600, that's not especially cheap.

Logic is by far the illest - my boys came over last night and had me sampling hip-hop and constructing beats through Logic and Logic is Deep -

Logic and Pro-Tools are a powerful combination and you get what you pay for.

having mbox and pro-tools is no big deal. pro-tools without the expense plug-ins is just like have pro-track midi/audio software ($59). get cubase se ($99) and download some free vst efx(s) and vsti and start from there. once you get the hang of cubase se upgrade to sl or sx. pro-tools is not sh*t unless you invest $1000s. it sounds nice that you have pro-tools but the first question i would ask you if you said you had pro-tools is what efx(s) do you have? if the answer is not the high end ones YOU ARE FAKING THE FUNK. period. the key to this sh*t (music) is growth. will my purchases grow with me. if you are not willing to spend $1000s on pro-tools system it will not grow with you but it does sound nice they you have it.

it is not what you have but how you use it. if you just going to record some track without any efx(s) or outboard/hardware pro-tools is a waste. if you record some tracks with software efx(s) pro-tools get very expensive. if you are just starting out get cubase se and download some vst efx(s) and learn how first then upgrade.
