hey guys,
i've been a ghostly observer for about a year now. reading a lot of posts but not chiming in. in part because it has only been in the last 8 weeks that i have been really getting down with this thing. I love it. i have so much to learn but i think i am over the learning curve hump and it's fun as #@!$.
Before i even bought an mpc though i came on this board to figure out what was great and what wasn't. at the time there were a lot of discussions about how the mpc can't do the 303/404 style of loop triggering where you just hit a pad and start the sample associated with that pad going. the answer that i always saw was that the software just wasn't made to be that way and nothing anyone can do could change that.
Just now while messing around i found a "glitch" which does exactly what i want it to do. (i'm using jjos 4.93). basically it is a loop lock technique using "Track mute"
1. go to main screen.
2. hold down any loop activated sample (or more than one) to get my loop (or loops) going.
3. hit "track mute" while still holding down the pad.
4. let go of pad.
voila. i'm still jamming. i'm just not touching anything anymore.
this can be done regardless of whether you have sequence going or not. and as long as you stay in "track mute" you can't stop it. to stop you go back to "main" or any other screen and hit the same pad. but if you want to keep going and even add other layers, you just repeat the same pattern with a different pad or set of pads.
So here is my question(s):
1. is this something everyone knows and i just haven't been ghost riding the forum well enough? (or i missed that update in the jj cycle) if i did miss this at some point, i apologize in advance for wasting other peoples time.
2. if this is a glitch, why can't something similar but a little bit more programmable be.... um.... programmed? it would be great to be able to set a pad to be able to 1. loop and 2. loop indefinitely. on/off switch style.
curious what anyone might have to say about this.
thanks,
josh
