Post your views and questions about the Akai MPC2500

I'm new to this whole MPC thing, and I just bought a 2500 from ebay. Mistake? It seems that when I hit a few of the pads, I hear the sound from it, but also I can lightly hear the sound from the pad next to it, or sometimes even a couple pads over. I went into the Velocity window, and when I hit Pad 13, sometimes its not recognized at all. When i hit 15 and 16, sometimes they are confused for each other. Is this normal? Or is this thing completely hosed? The guy who sold it to me said it was hardly used. I'm having a hard time believing that! The pads physically look like they are in good condition. They look new, even. What else can I check for? Any way to fix this? Or is it normal. Cheers.

Does it have warranty?

what happens when you use full level? Do you hear the sound next to it at the full velocity?

How do i set it to full level? Whats happening now is when i tap say Pad 6, i can lightly hear the sound from Pad 5 in the background. I just talked to the previous owner and here is what he said.
"Did you know you can set a pad to have more than onesound or sample every time you press it. I programmedsome of the pads to have more than one noise, so Iknow that that is what should happen when you hit somepads. Try changing the track."
If that's any help. Unfortunately he neglected to send me the manual, so I'm struggling here. Thanks for your reply!

welcome to the forums...

goto akaipro.com and download the newest os 1.23 if it is not already installed on your mpc. then download the manual and the manual addendums from the same website. if you´ll still have the same problems then i´d recommend a factory reset (press and hold the erase button while powering up the mpc) so you can start from scratch. if you have no experience with mpcs than it could be helpful to study what the previous owner did with it maybe you´ll learn a bit of it. there is also a very good e-book here at mpc-samples.com that covers a lot of the basic stuff that is missing in the manuals.

and my gosh full level is switched on by pressing the button that says - "full level". than can´t be to hard to figure out, can it?

Take the pads out and realign them. It happens all of the time. Its nothing to be alarmed about. There are a couple of threads about Akai's crappy pad design.

chopshop is shit but other than "file not found" and save bugs the OS ran fine.

What might of happen is that he might of layered the sounds and for the second sound might of just adjusted the level. You can find out by hitting mode then program and seeing if there is more than one sound assigned to each pad.

DO everything these guys are telling you, and then get back to us...

Sometime I have similar issues, and my MPC 2500 was bought used off the streets! Just update that OS, and open up your MPC to re align the pads. Let us know how that goes!
