I'm in the market for a MPC 1000, but I read somewhere that the (4) outs are for AUX's and not just (4) mono out to route into a DAW.

What I'd like to do is, do a track or some drums on the MPC1000, then out the (4) outputs into DP3 or Pro-Tools, isnt this correct in saying that's what the (4) outputs are for.

track 1--kick----------------out (1)--into 2408MKII---DP3
track 2--snare--------------out (2)--into 2408MKII---DP3
track 3--hihat---------------out (3)--into 2408MKII---DP3
track 4--cymbal------------out (4)--into 2408MKII---DP3

and so on and so forth

Sure, you can do that.

The only thing you CAN'T do is send a WHOLE track to an aux out. In your example you have each item on it's own track, so for you, it'd work just fine. But, if you had the bass & snare on track1, the hihat & cym on track 2, there's no FAST way to just select a whole track (ie- both bass & sanre at the same time) and send it to an aux out. The aux assignments are done for each PAD, not for each track.

I feel ya homie, glad to hear that

This works for me, I have no problem, with doing (4) tracks at a time, if I happen to do more than I stated above.

For me, that's the clincher, it's not 8 out but 1/2 that, sounds already in the machine/sampler/midi -- it's all I need. I had the 2000 and never used
it cause I'm so computer based, but with the CF card and such, able to transfer AIFF files within the MAC/DP3/Pro-Tools I think this will be
alllllriiiiiiiiiiiiight

what you are saying makes complete sense, and it is how i imagined it would work too.

but sadly NO.........

instead of assiging indidvidual tracks to the four outs, the mpc1000 only allows you to assign individual PADS to the outputs.

people say they did this to make it more user friendly for live applications.

...but i'm just trying to make beats, so i think they kinda screwed me as well as alot of other people on this decision.

there are ways around it (somewhat) but overall i find the 4 outs setup pretty idiotic. it sucks having to take the time to assign each and every individual pad to one of the outs...

example: you chop up a piano part and place the chopped up sections or notes from the sample onto the 16 pads. you record your piano sequence onto one track, but you still have to assign each and every pad to the individual outs....takes forever.

i forgot who originally posted this tip, but its much easier to just do all your tracks normally and then when you are dumping the tracks from the mpc to pro tools or whatever, you just solo each track and dump it in that way. if you have it midi'd up correctly you should be straight.

REGARDLESS the mpc1000 is dope, but crap like this kinda makes you have to give the gas face.

peace.

hmmmmm, so............... it doesnt work as described, I would have to assign the PAD, not TRACK to the OUTPUT.

I read that post your were talking about too, about MIDI SYNC it, and MUTE tracks as it REC into whatever software, this is true.

But I would probaby be using the MP for only drums and maybe some vocal edits, ---- I wont be doing whole songs with it as I like working in DP3, but I hear ya.

I gotta find someone who has one and test this out, this is getting on my nerves: IT CAN DO IT, NAWWWW DUKES IT CANNOT DO IT

IT CAN DO IT, NAWWW B, IT DONT WORK LIKE DAT (ha ha haa)

aaaaaaaaaaaaaargh :D

hahahaha!!!

yeah bliss, i know what you mean. everyone's got different ways of doing it so sometimes the answer is partly yes and partly no.

me and jksuperstar were basically saying the same thing.

the outs are for assigning pads NOT tracks.

but if you are mainly using the mpc for drums then it probalbly wont be as much of an issue for you. you can just do your drum sequences (on any number of tracks, or even all on one single track). then you just assign the kick, snare, hihats, etc to the outs.

for drums i guess its kinda nice having it setup this way, cause then if you want you can disregard seperating stuff by tracks and do all the drums on one single track. then when you want to output the individual sounds you just pick the pads and your done.

it just kinda sucks for tracking out everything else in your sequences (samples, chopped up hooks, instrument sounds, etc....)

good luck yo.
peace.

Seriously man, it makes little sense to assign it per track.

Example,

track one, kick snare
track two hihat
track 3 bass
track 4 vocal sample.

if set up how you describe, your kick and snare would be recorded together, and any eq or level adjustment will affect both. You'd have to separate the notes to individual tracks to get the separated.

if you have say all kicks to out 1, all snares to out 2, all hihats to 3, all basses to 4, you can make it all on one track and the sounds will be separated for recording. if you have extra kicks on track 5, they come out out 1 with the others. no need to specify it to out 1 again. what if on another song track 5 is a snare roll? re assign the outs. This is an ideal recording setup with few drawbacks if any. The track notion would get in the way more than anything. I have 8 outs and it takes less than 2 minutes to assign them all.

i dont know if i agree with you on that man.

like i was saying before, for drums i can see the advantages.

but for other aspects i think having to assign the pads is a big disadvantage.

example:
track1- (main melody) piano sample chopped up over the 16 pads
track2- (bass) bass line chopped up over the pads
track3- (drums) kick, snare, whatever else....

track 1 and 2 would be a nightmare for me to have to sit there and try assign each and every pad to the outs. i try and keep different instruments in my beats seperated by tracks.

besides drums, i cant see myself using the 4 outs for anything. its not worth the hassle.

how long have you had your MPC?

By punchdrunk Tue May 11, 2004 2:47 am
i've had it for a couple monthes now.

a couple of my friends had 2000xl's and i always wanted to grab one, but dealing with the scsi aspects of it kinda made me hold off.

when i saw the 1000 it looked like exactly what i wanted.
and for the most part i'm pretty happy.

so how long have you had your mpc?
(i assume since you said earlier that you had the 8 outs, you have a 2000xl?)

Not even close! ;) I have a 60.

about a year and a half, and as simple as it is compared to the others, I still learn new things all the time.

a 60?
dope!

i work at a used music store and we get 60's in some times.
that shit always tempted me just cause i'm into the classic early 90's sounding, gritty beats.

and i'm definitely with you as far as learning new things all the time. thats what makes me look at this forum like 20 times a day. so many different people have their own methods of getting stuff accomplished with their mpc, and most times i never would have come across those methods without this forum.

i'm just glad i get to soak up as much of it as i can.

By elmacaco Tue May 11, 2004 4:34 am
I hear ya. How much do you guys let those 60's go for?

The upgrade really brings it alive. Check it out if you haven't at
