finding out about rare records and their worth

whaddup.

just curious to know it theres a place on the net that lists the value of rare records, or popular records (which are still in good condition).

reason being: i've happen to come across 5 or 6 crates of vinyls that i bought for $10 a create, i never asked any questions why they were dirt cheap - .

but the thing is i got a heap of gem's here. i got the whole catalog of Julio inglesias in mint condition.

i've got countless rock records from artists like pink floyd, fleetwood mac ect. in mint condition.

i got a few quincy jones records "also in exelent condition"

countless records of gorge benson, elton john, electric light orchestra.

and there are a few autographed records too.
anyone know who i can get in contact wit to find out the value?

i've started the mamoth tast of cataloging every vinyl i have in microsoft exel and have a collum where i document the condition. i got somthing like 800 records to document, any one keen on seeing this when i'm done?

Ebay is what most people use these days, but i myself dont . you need to do alot of footwork go to your local record store and see what they are charging for the records you have ,then check the cond,
also ,check out GEMM>COM they have alot of records with low to high prices.

get a price guide,theres so many guides you need to investigate what one is right for you, there's many type's of guides.

I hate to be the one to burst your bubble, but 'fleetwood mac', 'pink floyd' 'elo' records are not worth anymore than $12 in mint condition and that's by the Goldmine Record guide (in print, check it out from amazon.com). Now actually getting a buyer to pay $12 for a Fleetwood Mac record is not happening, straight up, it won't happen, ever.

The only valuable Pink Floyd records I know of (as they're one of my fav. all time bands) are the quadraphonic WYWH album, and the version of Ummagumma on harvest that has a copy of 'GiGi' the record in the front pictures actually shown (later pressings had the record whited out, due to copyright issues), I know the WYWH quad is worth, on paper, $200 in NM.

As for online sources ede is dead on with ebay & gemm, also check out popsike.com which is a recorded archive of what expensive rare records went for on ebya.

PF the WALL is worth 25$ in mint cond,goldmine is realy not that good a price guide i've been told theres a guide by some osbourne dude that gives a more reasonable price,but it's an 05 issue,
goldmine doesnt have import records in it,it's more for the common record not really the rare stuff,
i'm still on the lookout for a good price guide.

What about if you can't find it anywhere ?

I found a frank Sinatra record, pre press w letter from warner bros. london dated 1970.
I have no clue what to value it as for insurance and general curiousity

Record values are funny and can never be judged properly. eBay for example, I've seen records imo that are common, or nothing so special go for big $$$, and then I've also seen some records that are straight beauties go for $4.99.

Example:Nas - Life's A B*tch promos usually sells on eBay anywhere from $40.00 to $100.00. Yet there is a repressing of it available for $6.99 that has the same exact cover art, same exact tracklisting, and the same exact audio quality. The ONLY difference is the promo record itself is stamped "Demonstration - Not For Sale". Both jackets/covers are stamped this way.

I have a rare, and I mean RARE Nas record Hustlers & Killers that was supposed to be on the I Am LP but wasn't because of the bootlegging. The record is a Columbia promo, NEVER been bootlegged or issued on vinyl (I've only seen it on the bootleg I Am CD, or mixtapes), lyrically, it's Nas so you know it's heat, and I think it was produced by Trackmasters. I had it on eBay and guys were offering $10.00 for it.

promo's are worth more cause they have a better sound then the mass pressed copy, they are deffinetly more rare cause they was only so many copies of it pressed.

promo's are worth more cause they have a better sound then the mass pressed copy, they are deffinetly more rare cause they was only so many copies of it pressed.

Not so on this one e.d.e. I've done the side by side on this one and visually, and audibly there is no difference whatsoever. I have also seen people pay big $$$ for the re-press because they were hyped to get their hands on a "promo", not knowing that they've been duped with a $6.00 record (oh how I love it).

And speaking on Nas, my Hustlers & Killers promos, and acapella promos of the I Am, and Nastradamus LPs are waaay more rare then the Life's A B*tch promo, so rarity doesn't even play a part in some cases of trying to evaluate the worth of a record.
