I find at the moment looping suits me for a bit but i think i will chop to 1/8s when i get a bit more confident to re arrange the sounds.
could i ask you advice on how i can go about sampling the stabs, thing is alot of the time it has like a kick behind it etc or it is short if i chop up to the next sample then i lose its tail.
would i need reverb for the last one? if so i might need a unit as i have not got one atm
Thanks

you can use a reverb or a delay unit. also the mpc has release envelopes, what i do is load the sample, i usually loop it in the trim screen, set the sample to note on, go to the amp envelope screen(highlight the level parameter in the program screen)and set my release envelope to emulate a tail. now when i press and hold the pad that the sample is on, it will play for as long as i hold it, and when i release it it has a nice natural fading tail.

i forgot to finish this:

then you go into the record screen and set the input to main outs. hit record and resample that sound. now you have a one shot sample with a tail...

Try to find stabs' hits with no kicks behind them, or layer your own kick on top of that point where the kick is found in the stab.

For tails, I sometimes slightly timestretch and use short small reverb to get a tail goingz on. After chopping I may apply slight fade out so it doesn't sound so "choppy" and abrupt.

if the sample is full of drums chop it like you would a break... and then filter the drums out and layer your own...

doesn't always work, but if u can work around and make it fit ur tempo then its all good.

Really! I've not read or seen that ebook at all.

No timestretch on the 2k, only 2kxl.

Also, the effects card if you can find one is good even though alot of people hate on it, for in the box creating it's essential for me. I'm def glad it's the first thing I bought when I purchased my 2kxl a while back, I STILL have the origianl receipt in my wallet to this day, it represents the BEST purchase I've ever made...

Check it.
