my display is disintegrating

this might be something for all you guys whose mpc has turned into a teethless granny, too. maybe someone can help.

i got vertical lines on my display, and until now it didn't really bother me cuz there were only few of them. but today i switched it on and something like a third of the screen consists of lines. that's kind of horrifiyng.
i know that there's a problem when the display gets darker until you don't see a thing on it anymore. and i do know that if so you only have to change the foil that lights the display, which is pretty cheap.
now, my concern is: will i have to replace the whole diplay? or is there a cheaper way?

Damn. Same thing just happened to mine. I just got my first line of dead vertical pixels. I contacted the El Foil place to see what they say. Will it take another whole display and if so can I still change the color at the same time. Id like to make the color more blue like the Mpc 60.

yeh im starting to see vertical lines ever so faintly when i have the contrast down low. i need to prepare for the worst. anybody know where u can get screen repairs in australia?

mines all jacked up too! its been that way for over a year now, and it seems to have stopped getting worse. I think im the only dude that knows what my screen says now. haha. whats up with this. i think there was a post before about this problem

I had the same problem I Call Akia and placed an order for the display screen (LCD). I was going to mail my unit in and I talked with a Tech from Akia and he told me it was not hard to change so I took his advisxe and he was right you can do it yourself . If I remember correctly the display screen (LCD ) was around $100 .

100? Those baztards at forat charge 200! Buyers beware...

Yea my display is almost completely gone. In order to do any work I have to memorize all the volumes and track #s on each seqence!! AAHHHHRRG!!! Can someone give me the number for Akai so I can order a new screen? Thanks.. I got a lot of work coming up....

When I did its not hard at all the parts are very small but if you have a small screw driver thats all you need . And the tech said it was pretty easy to do just take your time and you will be fine . You dont need any extra parts to do the job its a easy unit to take apart and when you take the top off you dont have to get deep into it to reach the LCD screen .
