MPC1000 Hard Drive Recommendations

I have a 80gb hard drive installed on my MPC with an old OS (not JJ) and I am attempting to format this new drive. Currently the MPC recognizes the hard drive but has 0.0MB of free space. So i go to format it and when I press DO IT...........pause..........nuthing happens. No formatting takes place. So I hook up my USB cable to see if I can format it from the Macbook. I go to USB scroll to Hard Drive, Mount......................nothing happens (no drive is mounted on my Macbook). This is really frustrating because my CF reader is out do to broken pins and I can't save any work to the MPC itself. Anyone have some insight they would care to share because I'm ready to smash it into 100 peices. Thanks

I have the following drive recognized:

Seagate Momentus 5400.3 ST9100828A - Hard drive - 100 GB - internal - 2.5" - ATA-100 - 44 pin IDC - 5400 rpm - buffer: 8 MB

I first tried formatting it under Akai OS v. 2.11 but it would say "Formatting..." for not too long and come back to the menu to format without any indication whether the foramtting was successful or not.

But then I installed JJ OS and the drive was recognized right away with the correct size for drive capacity. I should say though that I haven't tried saving to the drive yet since I'm still waiting for my password.

Okay so I bought my hard drive. Its made by Hitachi. I installed it correctly but when I try to load my sounds I bought it say insufficient memory. Whats up?

you need to understand the difference between RAM and a hard drive.

So I read up on RAM and as far as I understand I should just go buy some 128mb Kingston RAM install it. Then im good to go?

256mb, the mpc only reads one side of the RAM module, so you need to buy twice as much. don't worry though, it's still much cheaper than buying the akai RAM!

Isn't the MPC 1000 compatible with Mac OS X ??

yo i just got a brand new 1000 with the new pads. i didn't see it clarified, but a few people mentioned it so i'm asking again, do the new units come with the hd adapter preinstalled?

my mp also came with a 128mb compact flash which i haven't seen really seen anyone call attention to either.

to anyone who's gotten a 120gb drive to work, how are they holding up? any model numbers? thanks.

No the new MPC1000 doesn't come with the HDM-10 you have to buy it seperate! My MPC1000 which I got like 3 weeks ago came with the 128Mb memory card (Not Mem RAM) also. I don't think the MPC1000 read more than 76Gb so if you have a 120 Gb hard drive laying around it'll only take the 76Gb but if your trying to buy one check this 80Gb seagate: ST980815A-RK

I bought it at my local CompUSA and it works perfect! I have my whole Drumkit folder (2Gb) and also a folder with all my samples I messed with on fruity Loops (6Gb)!

good lookin khan, though i read a post saying that the max the 1000 will recognize up to 130gb. someone tried a 160gb drive and it recognized only a little more than 130gb.

anyone else notice that's it's damn near impossible to find the ram outside of ebay. i have no idea why the 1000 requires such antiquated hardware. correction, i know why it does, but the reason's retarded.

As soon as you install it it'll read the 128Mb even though its a 256Mb stick! It came to like a total of $36 with regular shipping so I thinks thats pretty fair! Damn I didn't realize that it can read that amount of Gb! Not that I really need it but I was tryina have my sh*t maxed out! Ima have to look into that!

yo i did a search on ebay for sodimm 144pin pc133 256mb ram and you can find it for hella cheap.

and when i say hella cheap, i mean like $5-$15 including shipping. i also noticed that the auctions that specifically mention mpc compatibility tend to sell the ram for about twice as much as auctions that just list it as laptop memory, because, though used in current-gen mpc units, 144pin sodimm chips are super outdated in the laptop world - same goes for the hard drives.

on another ebay note, you can find 60gb-80gb 2.5" ata 44pin hard drives on ebay for $40-$60 including shipping if you're really thorough like i am (which means i click "search titles and descriptions" and check the seller's feedback to make sure dude's not some scammer). seriously, at this point, people that have any remaining stock of these ram chips and hard drives know that they are damn near obsolete so they're kinda just trying to get rid of them.

people on craigslist have a lot of this stuff too but i'm always leary of craigslist because i think i'm going to get accosted by zed and the gimp like marcellus and butch in pulp fiction.

So does this mean that my 1000 I bought off of ebay ages ago that has the 128 mb of ram only has 64 mb? Do I need to take this out and purchase the 256mb card?
