Is there something I'm missing?

Hey.

I bought my first mpc yesterday and can't get enough of it, but there's just one problem: Say I've got a beat down and I'm ready to record. When I play back the recorded beat it plays back choppy even though I played it fine. Is this normal? Do I have to layer drums instead?? Or is this where the RAM upgrade comes into play??? Now either:

a) I'm a dumbass,
b) I'm a douche, or
c) there's something I'm missing.

my guess from the limited info you gave is you have timing correct activated. what this does is moves the note to the nearest 1/8th,16th or 32nd note in the bar. this helps with timing, but can also make it sound bad.

on the main screen go to T.C make sure its off. and it wont do that. and you can do them how you are. its better to layer them so u can change things down the line but to do it like you are take T.C off.

this could also be a polyphony issue if you are misusing too many voices at once in a beat... you could start by making your stereo samples into mono ones... but here's a thread that should answer any questions regarding how to properly use polyphony:
