i wish it had more bulk processing features. you can currently "tag" samples... but even if you tag them, you can't do things like take all the tagged samples, and make a new pgm out of it, and have each sample assigned to it's own pad. can't take tagged sample and resample w/FX, or reduce the sample/bit rate. you have to work on each sample one by one.
-right now my only bulk processing work around is emulator x2.
say you drag a folder w/a bunch of samples on the mpc HD... you know just a variety of stuff you plucked from a couple of different sample cd's, kontakt, battery... i wish the mpc would allow me just load the folder w/out having to go into the folders and load each sample one by one. i don't always want to flip on the computer and start dragging and dropping samples w/aksys.
i wish there was an automated way to build basic programs, the same way it's super easy to build new presets in emulator x2. even w/aksys... there's no way just assign a bunch of samples to different pads, just to have them out, and ready to go. you have to go sample by sample. in emulator x2 i just select G#0 (note 32/pad A1) as the start point, and select chormatic, and viola... all my samples are laid out, and line up perfectly w/the mpc's pads.
does anyone know of a translator the will go from emulator x2 .exb to akai .akp??? lemme know, please.
i wish there was away to do sample edits/treatments via zones. a lot of akai formated cd's don't actually load a stereo sample. it loads two mono samples, on panned hard left in zone 1, and one panned hard right in zone 2. if i want to reduce the bit rate, or resample w/FX... guess what? i either have to combine both samples into one then process... or do the operation twice.
i wish this thing actually had intilli-sample like the z series... it's stupid that the mpc doesn't have this feature. once again, i have to leave that job to emulator x2's synth swipe, or just gate before i sample w/emulator x.
i guess most of my gripes/wish list has more to do w/the sampling side of things.
i'm ok with the sequencer. -but i have list for that too...
it would be nice if the timing correct gave you more options other than just on, or off... i wish you can contorl how rigid you want it to be... or have templates like asr-x pro. then again, you can shift things after the fact. but it would be nice to be able to have a little bit more control, or to be able to hear it in a way i would have never thought to program it to sound... you know what i mean?
it would be pretty cool if you make the mpc work w/notes... like the mc-909. when in step or TR record mode, the mc-909 will allow you to select what kind of note you want to input, 1/8, quater, whole, etc. even in the editing screen, the mc-909 will display the note durations by the number of beats, then the clock ticks.
right now, i have to sit w/the calculator to figure out how many clock ticks a doted half note will amout to, so i can enter it. (960 x 3)
same with the FX. entering note values instead of having to calculate hz, or milli secs would be great too.
note repeat w/something larger than an 1/8th note...
i can't think of anything else right now...
like i said before... i still don't regret buying this thing. still worth every single penny. i just take the good w/the bad. the 4k is still my baby.
no ssl, i'm just using sonar the same way would use my other external gear w/the mpc. i just open up what ever vst's i'm gonna use in sonar, assign the channels, and just rock it. -right now, i'm just using the mpc and sonar. -so i'm not dealing w/any latency issues between the computer an other hardware, because the rest of my hardware is packed up.
the only time i get latency issues is when i do the drums or what ever out of the mpc via adat. you can hear that it's a little off with what's going on in the computer. -but doesn't sound like a dj train wrecking or anything... i haven't observed any drifting either.
while i'm building up the tracks, and working out the arragements w/the mpc, sonar is set to "audio" in the sync tab. when i'm actually ready to record, then i set sonar to slave to the mpc. arm the tracks, hit the record button in sonar... now it's waiting for the mpc to say "GO!" hit play on the mpc, and just let song run it's course.
after the audio from the mpc is printed inside of sonar, i noticed that everything is much tighter. it's not off like was before i set sonar to slave to the mpc. my mpc is set just send midi clock. when all the sounds are done inside the computer -no audio coming from the mpc... just pure VST action, everything sounds just fine.
i guess i can try dragging midi files from the mpc into sonar... but i haven't tried it yet. for me, i hate using sonar for midi editing/making the music... so much BS involved.... maybe i just have to get used to it. i just fly w/the mpc. i love it. i'm just happy that i'm making music, that enough for me right now... even though it may or may not be absolutely stone cold perfect... i still have a big smile on my face.
