thanks again everyone for there info. just wanted to get another quick question while this post is still alive, How do u upload the songs u want to sample on the 1000. i see the 2500 and the 4000 have a cd drive. (which i assume is how its mostly done on those models) Are they just uploaded from by USB or midi, Or am i completely wrong.

Thx in advance :)

and is there any difference between the blue or black 1ks, or are the blues just older?

my 1000 can chop loops into samples and create programs (ie. assign to pads.). Perhaps earlier ones didnt.

americanmusicalsupply.com has the updated features. theres alot of updates to the 1k that some descriptions seem to be missing.

the old ones are the blue ones and have an older OS and the bad pads. the newer black ones have the new pads (mine has the new ones) and the newer OS. some black ones have the old pads though.

and you can transfer files to the mpc via usb cable or Compact flash cards. (the card must be in for the usb to recognize on the pc, unless you have a harddrive installed in your mpc)

that i cant answer as i never had an older mpc1k. however its a function of the OS, which you can update to the newest one at any point. in the v2.0 update sheet i didnt see anything about slicing so i would guess its in the older ones as well but again, thats speculation.

I had all the same questions as you not too long ago, and after 2 days of reading and searching I found them, meanwhile I avoided all the insults that came along with the questioning..

JJOS is an operating system that you transfer onto your MPC's flash card and install to give it those CHOP SHOP features

it doesnt matter what colour it is, the chop shop is on the OPERATING SYSTEM. . the program that is installed int he hardware... comprende?

AKAI MPC 1K= Sampler, you just have more editing options standard on the higher end models... But the 1k can def get the job done, but with a few extra steps.

OS= Operating System

JJOS= Japanese Jenious Operating System

I would def download the Akai manual and try to get familiar with it as much as possible b4 buying. The JJOS is an OS that adds features to the MPC, it is a window into realizing the capabilities of the MPC... You will not need the JJOS immediately so the Akai OS will do just fine in the beginning. As far as I know, the 1k can do 90% of the things the higher end items can.

These guys are answering your questions, but that is leading to more questions from you. If you do not have a basic understanding of the 1k you are not going to understand the answers.

The USB cable that you use is used to load the OS, sounds, updates, and so on. The CPU will only see the memory installed (HD, CF) but not recognize it as the MPC. IF you have a card reader you will not need to use the USB cable unless you have an internal Hard drive installed in the MPC.

The MPC 1K is a great device to start on, and because of all the options it is a great tool to use for years to come. It will be a while b4 you feel you will need something with more capabilities, but that may not happen at all, since I feel it is only limited by your creativity.

But please do yourself a favor and read the Akai Manual, it will enlighten you to some of the great things the MPC can do for you. This will only help you know a bit b4 you buy.

the new akai os v2.10 and up does chop a sample and assign it to pads. which as far as im told is what chop shop is.

on a side note, i still recommend jjos. i upgraded (os1) last night and the workflow is much better. and grid edit is the shiznit.
