Post your views and questions about the Akai MPC2500

I'm very familiar with the original MPC 2000. I still have the one I bought 10 years ago, and still use it. It HAS however been giving me problems loading up and communicating with my SCSI zip drive. (I know, it IS a little outdated). So, I decided to buy a 2500 (it was time to upgrade) and I got a really great deal on ebay. I didn't realize however, how incredibly different the 2500 is. It has some cool features that seem to simplify alot of the 2000's features, but I can't figure out two things so far:

1. - How can I put a sample into "note off" mode? I used to be able to do it in the MPC 2000 in the "parameters" mode. I can see how to set a sample to "mono" or "poly" in the 2500, but not to "note off". Please tell me that this option is featured! This is extremely important for me. I use this feature quite frequently.

2. - When I am in "trim" mode, I can't figure out for the life of me how to play the whole sample in "mono" mode instead of "note off" mode! In other words, I have to hold down the pad to play the whole sample instead of just tapping it once. Am I missing something here? Maybe it's just because this piece is new and foreign to me, but I feel like it's a lot less user-friendly than the 2000. I would really appreciate it if there was someone out there who could help me with this stuff. Thanks in advance.

Hit Window on the sample name in the Program page. Maybe that will help you.

for your second problem: look at the writing above the pads 13-16, there you can chose how the sample should playback in trim mode.
to to do what you want you need to place the cursor on the sample startpoint and then hit pad 15 (play from).
pads 1-12 all do the same, only 13-16 act different.

and by the way, welcome to the forums!

can't play a sample in mono mode while in the trim window.

i know, it's irritating. you have to hold a pad down.

You really can't play a sample in mono mode in the trim window? Why would they take that option away? Shouldn't Akai be improving and expanding on previous features, not limiting and reducing them? Plus, the manual for the 2500 overlooks so many of my questions. I can't find anything that I'm looking for. It's not very thorough or specific at all like the 2000's manual. It's very frustrating. Everything is so general, and lacks detail. I appreciate the help, but I still can't seem to do what I want to. Are there any instructional DVDs being sold on how to use this thing, or maybe an "800" number for MPC or Akai support to help guide me through these questions? I'm glad I at least have this forum for some sort of help! Thanks so much to anyone who's taking the time out to respond. Happy holidays!

when you are in TRIM |MODE hit the F2 (i think) and this goes in to loop mode... any good?

i just checked and you cant loop in trim mode. strange.

but what are you trying to achieve, perhaps they have added some features to replace this.

if you are trying to fit a sample to a beat, have you tried chop shop?
if you are trying to pitch/ velocity etc, have you tried the sliders?

just a thought.
