using mpc1000 for BEATLESS music?

whats up everyone, I am pretty sure I'm going to get an mpc 1000 pretty soon, but before I do I was wondering about it's use as not a beat making/hip hop machine, but as a more sampledelica/psychedelic/ambient/sound collage type instrument...? I plan on definitely using it to make obscure beats and such, but I mainly would like to just sample the f*ck out of my surroundings/strange vinyl/myself, and basically use the mpc in conjunction with my other instruments (guitars, effects, synths, midi, software, 4tracks, s900, etc). this seems to be a really good machine to do this, so any input or comments will be looked upon with appreciation//

Yes it is, I use my MPC 1000 for weird tuff all the time. Much better than the 2000 or 3000 for weird stuff because of the 4 sound layering , effects and dual filters on each sound.

i think you'd be better and cheaper off getting an sp 303 or 404.. its sounds more like something for your use. But try both and find out what suits you best...

I'm in the same boat as you, except that I have used a MPC 2000XL to make beatless (not beatles ) music for years. I loved my 2kxl but due to its limitations sold it in order to eventually get a 1000 (coming soon, now that the new pads are coming standard). My experience with the 2kxl leads me to believe that using the 1000 for ambient/drone music will be rewarding and fun--and very productive. Here is a link to a few beatless tracks I did with the 2kxl

play the tracks "tonsure" and "children of the future." Both of these are primarily composed of samples from vinyl, played and sequenced on the 2kxl. Props if you can spot the origin of the samples!!!!!!

i write out of boredom noise and industrial ambience soundscapes..so this machine is deffinately capable of doing those things u wanna do and some..its really not about the machine if it can do..just read the specs they are low in comparison to a computer and almost all commercial software but it all boils down to the artist..an mpc requires that the artist can do shit for himself..the box wont do anything for u only the generic basics its up to u to do the rest by any means nescisary...there is no button that makes what u want there are no presets on this box...but its capable of doing almost anything u can think of..

thanks for the replies; another thing I'm wondering- can I sample directly from a tape deck/computer/mic? seems logical that of course I can, but just wondering what the experienced users have to say//
