I'd pay $150. to avoid the "what if" factor.

Can you elaborate on how/why you did this?

I've just installed this in my XL (after a lot of hassle trying to update the OS) and can confirm that it's definitely read only for me. Oh well, I guess I can probably use it as a card reader in my pc.

on a pc the plug is always pinned out for dual voltage. the drive is made to work in a pc. the mpc offers both voltages so thats how i hooked it up. and it works for me. my addonics drive wouldnt even work with 5v only. so when it came time to put this in i was already setup for both voltage levels. my hard drive also runs on both. i cant speak for anybody else, but mine works. i apparently have the golden glitch in my firware :)

i noticed from your pics that u have the newer MCD version of the 2000xl. i have the older white model that came with a floppy drive. i was just wondering if there's any difference from the older model to the newer blue model? cuse that might be the case here.

for everyone else that got a read only result
what model of the 2000xl you guys got?

oh and i also have the 12v and 5v connected

thats not an mcd drive in that pic. its the $17 cf drive. that is an mcd xl though. i only bought one of these drives to investigate a cheaper solution for other cats. it worked on mine but i ordered the black one and thats the one they sent me. so i really cant say for sure that it has the same f\w as the other drive listed on the site. and it obviously is because it was read only for everyone else that bought one.

damnnn. maybe thats y it worked for you, everyone else is trying to retrofit them into normal 2000xls. maybe this drive works well w. only a 2000xlw. MCD? maybe no one is installing theirs correctly.

installed incorrectly? nah, there's not much to installing it.. the ribbon cable only goes in one way and that is what transfers the data.

and the power cable that i installed allowed the drive to power up with no problem. the problem comes after you try to save something.

yea im with EM on this. if it powers on and reads. then its installed correctly. if it doesnt write then its 99.9% the drives firmware.
