Hey all. I'm completely new to the MPC universe. I did a lot of research here before buying one - but I picked up the mpc1000 last week. I haven't had a chance to turn it on, but that'll change tonight :D

It looked to me like at least a CF card was an immediate purchase, and I plan on getting a hard drive asap, along with the 128 (256) ram.

As far as JJ os: I wanted to stick with the AKAI sys for a few days and get somewhat familiar with things. I haven't determined whether the mpc has the new or old pads, but it seems that there is a good chance that it does. It seems that JJ isn't as good with the new pads as the old - but if someone knows something diff, then let me know.

And to be somewhat off topic, it sucks that Akai is charging for new pads that should have been right in the first place. I was fully prepared to go the length and get the new pads after the first set started getting buggy...

Talk to y'all soon!

hey . .welcome to the board.. this is the place for everything MPC..

just wanted to let you know that I am in the same situation and I guarantee you that the CF cards and RAM upgrades are things that I had to get within a week of my purchase.. I have yet to feel the need to spend 200$ on pads as i have no means of comparison

hey revel, i'm new here too.

it sucks anyone who has just bought an mpc or it thinkin bout buyin one,

after saving for the extras like the ram, cf card, jj os and the hard drive,

we may have to shell out more scrilla for the pads. (my ba*ls are breaking as i write this post)

but hold ya head! it will be worth it when you through.

welcome to the board

the new stock comes with the new pads at least. i think they should retrofit everyone since they are now replacing them but i dont run the world.

what is this issue with pads you all speak of? i just ordered an MPC1000 today and im wondering if this is some issue i should be expecting to hit in a couple weeks, after it arrives and ive been using it....

if you just ordered it, they should be new, you can tell by trying to pull the corner up of one of the pads (with a fingernail), if it comes up, and is single its the old pads. they are harder material and i guess they go dead. the new ones are all on one layer and wont come up if you pull the corner up. the new ones are like the other MPC's softer and i guess the sensor pad is different and doesnt die out.

foenetic, you have it backwards.

if the pad lip comes up above the metal mpc pad frame, it's the NEW pads. similarly, if you wiggle one pad and you see the others move, it's the new pads.

if you try either of the above and it doesn't work, it's the old pads. stay away.

Ant is correct. I will try and post a pic of what the new pads do when you try to pry..... I had the old pads on one I got last week, so it is a toss up on whether you get the new ones or not... I took the first one back and the second one (In matching box) had the new pads.....

Welcome to the site...... B4 you get told this, I recommend you do alot of reading and research... And try to learn how the search function works, because the ancients are very friendly all the time..... Noob to Noob, have fun brotha, if it is not fun why do it?

oh sorry i must be confused. i was under the impression the old ones were seperated and u can pull a corner up and the new ones where a whole set and move together.
