Hi there, Ive downloaded the editor and im wondering if i can make floppies for my Akai Mpc60.

In the PDF it sais that if i want to make mpc60 disks, during export i have to choose MPC3000 so that the disk can be read on mpc60.

I did that and it created a pgm file along with snd files but i know that the mpc reads SET files.

Am i doing something wrong or do i have to upgrade my 60 with the OS v3?

Thanks!

PS: Im kinda confused about the bits and the sampling rate. The wav sounds are 16bit 44.1khz. Does the mpc read the 44.1khz 16 bit and play them back at 40khz 12bit? Does it play it as 40khz anyway but the samples sound slightly pitched down a bit?

I think there is a problem with using the 60 and MPC Editor from what a couple of peeps on here say. Yes the 60 files need to be SND. files which are the same as the 3000 files. You did everything right it sounds like. Cause you just need to put the samples on the pads in the editor and then export as MPC3000 files and load it up. Was your floppy formatted with Editor or with the MPC?

i think the mpc editor was made with the 3k in mind, so that would mean, YES, you will have to install the 3.10e OS version in your 60 to fully utilize the mpc editor...

I formatted the floppy on the mpc and the mpc DOES read the files but it gives me an error message something like "cannot read file".

I tried loading the samples alone and not the pgm file but still the same message.

Hmmm yes thats what i thought.

Well it is still fun to sample each sound alone from either my DAW or vinyl.
But you know, sometimes i have so many drums sitting in my folders and havnt tried them on my 60 yet.
when i have to lay some drums on a track i prefer to do that on my mpc rather than just import them on my HALion VSTi.
I really want to be able to keep the same sequence and keep changing sounds to see which one fits me.
And when i sample i have to save the sequence and load it again.
Thats ok with me, no love is lost but i DO NEED TO GET the OS 3.10 cos of its extra features.

Im wondering if i should get the SCSI with it OR memory expansion to 1.5 gigs.

Also, what about the different bits and sample rate of the wavs and the mpc60?

does OS3.10 take care of it?

Try this
To format a DD floppy disc w/o using the MPC itself:

Type "format a: /t:80 /n:9" (w/o quotes) into the the "Run" prompt in the Start menu. You get a little less storage space on the disc, but your 60 should be able to read it.

Os 3.10 doesn't do anything for sample rates you can't do anything about that. You should get OS 3.10 and you should be set you don't really need the extra memory or the scsi but the scsi would be cool to have. Last time I heard the Marion scsi cards are back ordered.

Hmmm so should i convert the samples from 44.1 to just 40 in wavelab and THEN make mpc patches? (Of course after getting the OS3.10...)

the 3.10e os will read and load mpc3000 format .snd files, it will upon loading convert these files from 16 bit to 12 bit and when loaded into RAM will be in the 60 12 bit format... it takes a lot longer to load these 16 bit mpc 3000 files into the 60 since it is also converting them to its own format in the process... once mpc3000 .snd files have been loaded into mpc60 RAM it is recommended to now save these new 60 format 12 bit .snd files so that next time you can load them quicker as they will already be in the format that the 60 is compatible with...

Great! I got the picture!

Where is the best place to order the OS 3.10 shipmentwise and speed wise?

I found an OS 3.02 for the mpc60. I assume that thats an older OS, right?
