Overpriced 60's on Ebay...

Not to point fingers in any specific direction...but what's going on with the slew of overpriced 60's and disappearing auctions on ebay?

A MPC 60 with additional RAM, clean backlight, 3K O.S. and "near mint" condition is not worth a penny over $700-750...$800 tops if its mint. At least thats what the market has shown. Check craigslist, studio liquidations and completed listings for the last while and that can be determined.

Now a mint 60 with RAM, with SCSI, with fully functioning pads, sliders, etc...OS 3.10e...is fair for 9bills +50 for shipping. Monogee's 60 being an exception b/c you also get a flight case but the price was still steep.

We all know demand drives prices and the limited supply of goods (functional and without too much flaw in this case) also drive prices but come on, be reasonable.

As I've mentioned before, I also own a mint 60II with every possible upgrade outside of the output boost and it was $910 on the dot shipped but of course that was years ago and I still think that was a fair deal.

I'm in the market for a 60I so I can fix my II and have it placed in storage but be realistic with asking and Buy It Now prices....

Should I blame the gouge on Count BassD who wanted something around $1100 BIN for a trashcan 60....

we all know one has the right to start auctions at whatever price one pleases and of course the bidder makes the decision on whether to bid or not so none of that psuedo utopian democracy free market sh*t please....

I'm actually putting lots of gear in storage and purchasing duplicates and more portable units for my move to London and I saw the ultra high prices for gear there...quite discouraging.

Yep...but the machines you find here are usually in mint condition. Man, if I see some of the stuff people try to sell in the US, I can't believe how they treat gear that cost a couple 1000 $'s sometime...

Yeah, I listed that MPC60 goin off of what previous 60's sold for on Ebay. I might just relist it starting at .99 cents. We'll see.

Oh yeah, I'm having flash backs of this one, I'll be nice, don't want to mess up my man's business of selling equipment. The only gripe I had was the way the EMU SP1200 I bought from them was shipped. Just imagine putting an SP1200 with no bubble wrap around the unit, a plastic case holding a bunch of floppies(which wasn't taped shut) bouncing around lose and no packing peanuts in a big azz box and shipping it to someone. You can kind of guess how the unit looked . I'm particular about my equipment, kind of like it in pristine condition just in case I decide to sell it later on, but hey, that's just me.

Oh so you bought the SP from him. That's pretty fackin stupid to ship something with no padding in the box. Dude sounds like a idiot!

EMU SP1200's look like they may be sturdy, but they are delicate machines. Plus they're like more than 20 years old. Hey, some seller's don't know, don't care, how they pack and ship, but I stress that to someone when I buy something from them of that value, PLEASE BUBBLE WRAP AND DOUBLE WRAP THE ITEM. In that case, I don't think I did which really isn't my responsibility to do so.

I just noticed they are selling an EMU SP1200. Don't worry, it's not the one I bought because they never refunded my money for it. I eventually sold it to someone else with the defects it shipped with and lost money on the deal.

I mean if you have any respect for your own equipment and making music wouldn't you want it to show up to that person in the same condition you had it in. I don't know maybe that's just me.

I agree. That MPC60 I was selling was purchased second hand. I cleaned it up maxed it out with sample time/Roger Linn Upgrade minus the scsi port and that joint almost looks brand new. Just with the holidays here, I need some fundage so I said I'd put it up for sale see what offers I'd get.
