Question on Chopping in the MPC2000 Original

I started chopping by recording parts of my sample in sections. i would record a bit assign it then record another bit assign it etc.

I tried sampling the whole section and then chopping it, but is there a way to chop into little pieces without having to copy the sound after every chop? I want to lay it across all 16 pads so I can flip it how I want you know. I'm new to this and I have read the manula so if anyone could help me out I would appreciate it.
